Bethune-Cookman Falls To Florida A&M, 3-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Maria Ceccarelli's 13 kills led three Florida A&M players in double figures as the Rattlers defeated Bethune-Cookman 3-1 (25-17,19-25,25-18,25-16) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division match in historic Moore Gymnasium Friday.

Katherine Huanec added 12 kills and Lorrin Rucker 11 as the Rattlers (5-11 overall, 4-1 MEAC) won their fifth straight and snapped a three-match B-CU (9-11,3-2) winning streak.

Krysta Gardner had a match-high 18 kills for B-CU, while Janeen Davis double-doubled with 15 kills and 15 digs.

PRADO EARNS 1,000TH DIG AS UMES SHUTS OUT HAMPTON FOR FIRST PLACE IN MEAC NORTH

HAMPTON, Va. - Rebecca Prado became a member of the 1,000-dig club as the Hawks dominated Hampton on the road 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-17) to take sole possession of first place in the MEAC Northern Division.  UMES improves to 4-0 in the conference and 13-6, increasing their win streak to eight.  Hampton falls to 3-1 in the MEAC and 8-9 overall.

As a team, UMES hit .382, including 38 kills with only nine hitting errors.  Vaitai led the Hawks with 12 kills to hit .408, adding seven digs and a block.  Iosia earned 10 kills to hit .444 plus eight digs and an ace.  Prado dug out 11 balls, also adding an ace.

Mianna Armstrong recorded six kills to lead the Lady Pirates.  Ornela Cadavid had five kills with two blocks.

EAGLES GRASP THREE-SET VICTORY OVER SAVANNAH STATE

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - As North Carolina Central advances their MEAC record to 2-2 on the season, senior Emanuelle Santos continues to be a driving force for the Eagles as they accomplish a three-set (25-14, 25-21, 25-15) win over the Lady Tigers of Savannah State.

Santos led the maroon and gray with her fourth double-double outing of the season, the Rio de Janerio native amassed 14 kills and 16 digs.  Freshman Dayanna Arrufat added to the win with nine kills, while senior Shantel Moore, who returns to action after missing five matches due to injury, added eight kills to the win.

Sophomore setter Jzima-Malaki Kalao delivered 25 assists, while senior Tasha-Gaye Richards served a season-high four services aces.  Santos also led the squad in blocking with three block assist.

The mighty maroon paced to victory by turning 74 attempts into 39 kills, amassing 15 service aces, seizing 29 digs, circulating 34 assists and tallying seven team blocks.

Bianca Helton led the Lady Tigers in kills with nine, while Ashlee Butler distributed 11 assists.  Defensively, Bryana Gadis gathered five digs, as Asiha Williams collected three block assists.

Savannah State finished Friday night's match with 19 kills, 17 assists, two service aces, 17 digs and five team blocks.

NSU Picks Up Huge Win Over Delaware State, 3-2

NORFOLK, Va. - Needing a win to keep pace in conference play, the Norfolk State volleyball team did just that, although not without some drama at the end, in a 3-2 victory over Delaware State Friday Night at Joseph Echols Hall.

On Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and donning their pink t-shirts, NSU came out firing on all cylinders, winning the first two sets, 25-19, 25-10, to open play. Delaware State got its rhythm back and won the next two sets, 26-24, 25-23, but the Spartans had the answer in the fifth set, pulling out a 15-12 win for the match victory.

Playing in front of a crowd of more than 250 people who were loud, enthusiastic, and even tried getting the wave going, NSU improved to 2-2 in the MEAC and 6-10 overall. The Hornets fell to 3-14, 2-3 in conference play. Dating back to 2001, Delaware State had won the past 17 meetings in the series.

Freshman Adriana Ramos paced the offense with 16 kills and also added 15 digs and three service aces, while junior Beatriz Ferreira posted 14 kills for an NSU offense that hit .145 for the night. The Spartans limited Delaware State to a .023 attack percentage and held the Hornets to just nine kills through the first two sets and 29 overall for the match.

NSU, meanwhile, had 54 kills and also held the advantage in digs (61-45) and service aces (12-8), although Delaware State had 10 blocks to NSU's seven.

Junior Charlotte Armstead also reached double digit kills with 10, and senior Jasmine Frazier added nine kills and four blocks. Senior libero Tracey Copley had a team-high 16 digs, and junior Kristen Burt had a double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs to go along with three service aces.

Delaware State was led by Jessica Russell-Croucher and Edarkis Branch with seven kills each and Sonja Banicevic with 18 digs. Christobel Fakaosi had 25 assists, and Laisha Davis added six kills and six blocks.

Howard Wins Consecutive Conference Game at Coppin

BALTIMORE - Howard  (3-17, 2-2 MEAC) captured the win over Coppin State (4-17, 1-5 MEAC) in four for a consecutive conference win.

Senior, Tosin Elebute, dominated the match finishing with 18 kills and one dig shy of a double double. Martin put down 13 balls for Howard and Conway charted seven kills. Junior setter, Jasmine King racked up 20 assists followed by Stephanie Shultis with 16 assists. Junior libero, Jasmine Tipton had a game high of 14 digs.  

The Lady Bison out swung the Eagles and averaged a better percentage. The Eagles played solid defense on the back row finishing with 50 digs to the Lady Bison's 46. At the net, HU put up solid blocks finishing with six blocks to the Eagles two blocks.

For the Eagles, Ariel Richard finished with 14 kills and nine digs, just shy of a double double. Salena Weekly and Vanity Massey both finished with seven kills. Freshman setter, Torie Livingston put up 35 assists. Libero Gabrielle Otero finished with 12 digs followed by Tyler Phillips with nine and Massey with six.
