Lady Hawks Shutout Morgan State For Second Straight Win In Baltimore
BALTIMORE - The Hawks returned to Charm City on Sunday to face Morgan State, dominating the Lady Bears with a three set victory (25-16, 25-14, 25-16) for their seventh straight win. UMES improves to 3-0 in the MEAC and 12-6 overall, while Morgan State falls to 1-2 in-conference and 3-16 this season.
Maline Vaitai finished with 11 kills to hit .333, adding a pair of digs and blocks. Sauitia Iosia fell just short of a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs and two blocks. Zoe Bowens picked up five kills on six attacks to hit .667 plus eight digs. Rebecca Prado got seven digs, standing just three away from 1,000 in her collegiate career, with two aces.
For Morgan State, Kierra Outlin led the team with eight kills and seven digs. Nangeeshie Plaud got six kills and digs.

Lady Eagles Notch First MEAC Win of Season
BALTIMORE -- Freshman Ariel Richard had 18 kills and 13 digs and junior Christina Epps added 11 kills as Coppin State rallied to defeat Delaware State 25-20, 22-25, 14-25, 25-22, 15-12 to claim its first MEAC victory of the season on Sunday in the Physical Education Complex.
Coppin State (4-16, 1-4 MEAC) used a stirring comeback to notch its first conference win of the season. After winning the first set, Coppin State dropped the next two sets and trailed late in the fourth set before storming back to record the win.
The Eagles were trailing 17-13 in the fourth set before back-to-back kills by Vanity Massey and Epps cut the lead to 17-15.
A Delaware State service error and a setting error combined with a service ace from Gabrielle Otero tied the set at 18-18.
The Eagles then took a 20-18 lead on a kill by Salena Weekly and a Delaware State hitting error.
The Hornets then rallied to tie the set at 20-20, but the Eagles regained the lead for good on back-to-back kills by Weekly.
CSU won the fourth set 25-22 on a kill by Richard.
Coppin State took an early 5-2 lead in the fifth set aided by two kills from Richard.
Delaware State climbed to within 12-11 on back-to-back kills from Edarkis Branch, but Epps answered with a kill and Kristine Bindule added a service ace for a 14-11 lead.
Branch recorded a kill for Delaware State to cut the lead to 14-12, but Coppin State won the fifth set 15-12 on a DSU ball handling error.
Richard's 18 kills marks a career high topping her previous best of 16 kills. She also recorded her third consecutive double-double on the season.
Epps had a .429 hitting percentage and also added three blocks, while Weekly had eight kills and four blocks.
Massey added seven kills and nine digs, while Bindule had 39 assists, five kills, four digs and four blocks.
Otero also had 13 digs and a service ace for the Eagles.
Delaware State (3-13, 2-2 MEAC) was led by Jessica Croucher who had 18 kills and 14 digs. Branch added 10 kills for the Hornets.

Lady Rattler Spikers Defeat Aggies 3-0
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Oct. 9) - Florida A&M dominated the winless North Carolina A&T Aggies 3-0, today at the Alfred Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium.
The Rattlers controlled game No.1, with a 25-9 win over the Aggies. The Rattlers took the lead from the start and never relinquished it as they attacked the Aggies with a solid group effort. Maria Ceccarelli, led the Rattlers with four kills. She was followed by Katherine Huanec, with three kills. Marija Jovanovic, who was recently moved to setter, carded seven assists in the game.
The Rattlers won game No.2 in convincing fashion as well. The Lady Rattlers found their team rhythm, which was evidenced by three players leading the way with three kills each. Huanec, Ceccarelli and Pamela Barrera each tied for the lead in kills for FAMU. The Lady Rattlers won the second game 25-14.
In the final game, the Aggies took the early lead. It wasn't until 15-15, that the Lady Rattlers tied NC A&T. From there, the Lady Rattlers would once again dominate with kills on the front line. Ceccarelli, found her groove and poured in seven kills to the lead FAMU. Bianca Rucker and Barrera would score four kills each. Barrera would end the game on a power kill in the center, through the Aggies' defense. The Lady Rattlers wound up the game with a 25-21 win.

Spartans Unable to Complete Comeback in 3-2 Loss to Howard
NORFOLK, Va. -Norfolk State looked strong after an early setback, but too many errors prevented the Spartans from completing the comeback in a 3-2 loss to Howard Sunday afternoon at Joseph Echols Hall.
NSU gave points away left and right with 20 service errors as Howard won, 25-21, 21-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-12. The Spartans saw their record drop to 5-10 overall, 1-2 in the MEAC. The stat sheet did not favor Howard, but the Bison did pick up their second win of the year to go to 2-17, 1-2.
The Spartans hit .160 for the match, led by junior Charlotte Armstead with 17 kills and six blocks. Junior Beatriz Ferreira had 12 kills and seven blocks, as the Spartans posted a season-high 13 team blocks on the afternoon.
Freshman Adriana Ramos added a team-high 14 digs and 11 kills, while senior Jasmine Frazier also reached double digit kills with 10. Junior Kristen Burt had 44 assists, and senior Tracey Copley and junior Paige Gary-Canty posted 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Howard was led on the offensive side by Tosin Elebute with 25 kills, as the Bison hit .138 for the match. Both teams had 31 attack errors, while the Bison had 11 service errors. Both Stephanie Schultis and Jasmine King had 21 assists, while Riana Cain led all players with 20 digs.
Elebute also added 16 digs and six blocks. Howard had nine team blocks on the night and both teams posted 66 digs.
