NSU's Miller Elected Norfolk Sports Club President for 2011

Norfolk State University athletics director Marty L. Miller has been elected to serve as president of the Norfolk Sports Club for 2011.

Miller, who has served on the NSC board of directors since 2007, succeeds Skip Burton as the club's president. In that capacity, Miller will oversee all operations of the NSC, with a focus on the club's many fundraising and charitable activities. Those include the yearly jamboree, numerous golf outings, and twice-monthly luncheons.

Miller is the second African-American to serve as president of the NSC since its inception in 1944. The other was former NSU athletics director William "Dick" Price, who held the position in 2003. Miller is the club's 69th president.

"I'm honored to be elected president of the sports club. The club has awarded more than $1.2 million to high school students to continue their education at the college level, and I'm proud to be a part of that effort," Miller said. "In addition, the club promotes many different athletic activities within this region, which should also serve to heighten awareness for Norfolk State University within the community."
