MEAC Basketball Continues On ESPNU This Weekend

The defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champion Morgan State Bears will host the Norfolk State Spartans in an ESPNU televised men's game on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.

MEAC television action continues on Monday, Jan. 31 with a men's and women's doubleheader featuring Maryland Eastern Shore and Hampton University. The games will broadcast live on ESPNU beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the women's game and a 7 p.m. start for the men's game.

Morgan State (9-8, 5-1 MEAC) has won four of its last five games and is 6-1 at home this season. Kevin Thompson, the 2010-11 MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, guided the Bears in their win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday night with 20 points and eight rebounds. Norfolk State (5-13, 3-3 MEAC ) extended their winning streak to three with an 84-61 victory against South Carolina State in an ESPNU game last Monday. The Spartans were led by junior center Kyle O'Quinn who scored a game-high 26 points.

Hampton and Maryland Eastern Shore will tip-off the MEAC women's basketball television slate on Monday. The defending tournament champion Lady Pirates (13-6, 6-1 MEAC), who are 5-2 at home this season, defeated the Lady Hawks (7-12, 4-2 MEAC) in their lone regular season game, 64-48, a year ago.

In men's action, the Hampton Pirates (15-5, 5-2 MEAC) will face the Hawks in the second game of Monday's doubleheader. Hampton holds the advantage in the all-time series record at 18-6; however Maryland Eastern Shore (4-15, 1-5 MEAC) won in their last televised meeting, 68-62, in 2008.

The 2011 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips off March 7-12 at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC.  The tournament will also air on the ESPN networks with the women's championship game scheduled for a taped-delayed telecast airing on March 13 at 11 a.m. on ESPNU while the men's championship game will televised live on March 12 on ESPN2 beginning at 2 p.m.
