Gallo Hits Game-Winning Shot For Coppin State
DOVER, Del. -- Junior Tony Gallo hit a driving layup with 3.0 seconds remaining in regulation lifting Coppin State to a 65-63 MEAC victory over Delaware State on Monday in Memorial Hall.
Casey Walker tied the game for Delaware State with a three-point basket with seven seconds to play, but Gallo took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the court for the game-winning shot giving Coppin State its second consecutive road victory.
The Eagles had to survive one last gasp by the Hornets as Jay Threatt's three-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed out from halfcourt.
Coppin State (9-9, 4-2 MEAC) trailed 60-55 with 3:00 to play after Threatt converted a layup.
Akeem Ellis, who led the Eagles with 15 points, scored on a layup and made the free throw after getting fouled to cut the lead to 60-58 with 2:32 to play.
Ellis then connected on a three-pointer with 1:12 to play giving the Eagles a 61-60 lead.
Antonio Williams scored on a jumper that increased the lead to 63-60 with 14 seconds to play before Walker tied the game with his three-point basket.
Coppin State shot a blistering 64.3 percent in the second half to overcome a nine-point halftime deficit.
Williams had 12 points and 15 rebounds for Coppin State, while Jordan Lee scored 11 points. Vince Goldsberry had 10 points and two assists for the Eagles.
Delaware State (8-10, 4-2 MEAC) was led by Desi Washington who scored a game-high 19 points.

Bethune-Cookman Holds Off Howard
Daytona Beach, FL-Anton Dickerson came out of a six-game shooting slump to score 12 of his team-high 15 points in the second half, but it was not enough to offset the scoring CJ Reed and Garrius Holloman, who each tallied 17 points as Bethune-Cookman defeated Howard, 56-49 in a MEAC men's game at the Ocean Center.
The Bison (2-17 overall, 0-7 MEAC) played the Wildcats (11-9 overall, 6-1 MEAC) close through the first 18-plus minutes of the first half before the hosts closed out with a 6-0 run to take a 27-19 lead at the half.
The Wildcats threatened to put the game away in the first eight minutes of the second half when they took a 17-point lead, but the Bison would not go away and rallied on the scoring of Dickerson, who scored eight straight points during a three-minute stretch to his team to within seven.
Phillips just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds while Riley had a good stat line with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists in 40 minutes of play.
Starling recorded a double-double for the Wildcats with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Thompson, Morgan State Clips Hawks, 74-60
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Morgan State was on a mission following a disappointing conference loss at Delaware State.
Kevin Thompson had a field day inside where he scored 10 of his team-high 20 points in the first half and hauled down eight rebounds, helping Morgan State dismantle the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore 74-60 Monday night at W.P. Hytche Center.
Morgan State (9-8, 5-1 MEAC) outrebounded the Hawks by a 35-29 margin and hounded them into committing 19 turnovers.
Thompson, the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, scored 10 of his 20 points to help Morgan State build an 11-point lead by halftime, and Ameer Ali scored 13 points for the Bears, who haven't lost to UMES since the 2005-06 season. Justin Black added 11 points and four assists to help the Bears post their first conference road win of the season.
The Hawks had solid front court play from Obame Obame Freddy (9 pts, 5 rebs) and Tyler Hines (10 pts, 10 rebs), especially in the first half where the duo combined for 10 of the Hawks' first 11 points and kept UMES within striking distance.
Hillary Haley was held to just four points in the first half, but exploded in the second half by scoring seven of the Hawks first 10 points. Haley finished with a game-high 22 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field.

Rattlers Stun Hampton Pirates 62-58 for Crucial MEAC Win
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida A&M Rattlers (7-12,2-5 MEAC) played inspired basketball with a full roster which resulted in a revitalized effort against the Hampton Pirates (15-5, 5-2), leading to a 62-58 victory.
In the first half, the Rattlers battled the Pirates on the boards. Amin Stevens grabbed 16 rebounds for the Rattlers, while Hampton's Danny Agbelese grabbed 10.
Leading the scoring for the Rattlers was Stevens with 21 points. Brandon Hosley put down eight points, while Larry Jackson and Chris Watson contributed seven points each. Eight Rattlers scored on the night.
The Pirates were paced by Darrion Pellum, who scored 19 points, leading a trio in double figures. Kwame Morgan scored 17, while Charles Funches added 11 points.
