The Norfolk State Spartans will host the South Carolina State Bulldogs in a televised men's basketball game on Monday night (Jan. 24). Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. with the game airing live on ESPNU.
South Carolina State (5-13, 1-4) looks to bounce back after a 84-74 overtime loss to North Carolina A&T on Saturday. Junior guard Brandon Riley poured in a game-high 27 points, while senior Tyvon Williams recorded his first double-double with 16 points and 10 assists against the North Carolina A&T Aggies.
The Spartans (4-13, 2-3 MEAC) have won three of four after defeating North Carolina Central 74-71 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday. Junior Chris McEachin scored a season-high 18 points and Kyle O'Quinn recorded his seventh double-double of the season in the victory.
The teams split their two meetings last season, with each winning at home. South Carolina State won the first matchup 97-82 on Jan. 25, 2010, while the Spartans evened the series with a 82-62 victory on Feb. 22, 2010.
The Norfolk State/South Carolina State matchup is the fourth MEAC televised basketball game of the season and is a part of the conference's seven-year partnership with ESPN. In the most recent television action, Norfolk State topped Howard 63-53 last Monday night.
The television action continues on Saturday, Jan. 29 with the Spartans traveling to Baltimore, Maryland to face off against the defending MEAC champion Morgan State Bears. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
The 2011 MEAC Championship Tournament will also air on the ESPN networks with the women's championship game scheduled for a taped-delayed telecast airing on March 13 at 11 a.m. on ESPNU while the men's championship game will televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 2 p.m. on March 12.
