SAVANNAH, Ga.- Playing their first game at home since December 15, Savannah State did not disappoint the 1,255 fans in Tiger Arena as Jovonni Shuler hit a jumper with two seconds left to give Savannah State a 50-49 win over Stetson.
The Tigers trailed 49-46 with 1:58 left but two free throws by Preston Blackmon to cut their deficit to one with 1:26 on the clock.
Stetson's Corey Waldon missed a layup with 51 seconds left and teammate Ridge Graham grabbed the rebound but had his shot blocked by Joshua Montgomery, with 49 seconds on the clock.
After a turnover by Blackmon and foul by Shuler, Graham missed the front end of a one and one and Montgomery pulled down the rebound with 15 seconds left.
That is when SSU raced down court and pulled off the game-winning shot.The win improved Savannah State to 3-17 while the Hatters fell to 6-13.
SSU trailed by six with 9:08 remaining before putting together a 10-1 run to take a 46-43 advantage with 5:27 left.
But Stetson answered with six straight points to go ahead 49-46 with less that two minutes remaining.
SSU's Cedric Smith came off the bench to lead all scorers with 13 points and he went 5 of 6 from the field and made 3 of 4 free throws.
Shuler added 12 points and 6 rebounds while Montgomery chipped in 11 points and 7 boards.
Stetson, who went the final 4:24 without a field goal, led by nine in the first half before SSU strung together a 13-2 run to go ahead 25-23 with 43 seconds left in the half.
SSU led 26-25 at the break.
Graham was the only Stetson player in double figures with 11 points.
