Morgan State to Host South Carolina State on ESPN2

The South Carolina State Bulldogs will head to Baltimore, Maryland to face off against the defending MEAC champion Morgan State Bears in an ESPN2 televised men's basketball game on Saturday (Jan. 15) at 5 p.m.

The matchup marks the first meeting between the two teams since the 2010 MEAC Basketball Tournament championship game a year ago. The Bears defeated South Carolina State in that game 68-61 to advance to the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Morgan State (7-7, 3-0 MEAC) extended their conference win streak with a 78-72 win over Hampton on Monday evening. Kevin Thompson, the 2010-11 MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, and 2010 MEAC Rookie of the Year DeWayne Jackson combined for 40 points in the victory. Thompson added 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.

South Carolina State (5-10, 1-1 MEAC) loss its first conference game of the season on Monday afternoon, 62-60, to Delaware State. Presano Bell poured in a career-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, while junior guard Brandon Riley chipped in 11 but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped its first MEAC game of the season.

The Morgan State/South Carolina State matchup is the second MEAC televised basketball game of the season and is a part of the conference's seven-year partnership with ESPN.  Last Monday, the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats topped the North Carolina A&T Aggies, 72-69, in a televised men's basketball game on ESPNU.

The television action continues on Monday, January 17 in Washington, DC with the Howard Bison hosting the Norfolk State Spartans.  Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. on ESPNU.

The 2011 MEAC Championship Tournament will also air on the ESPN networks with the women's championship game scheduled for a taped-delayed telecast airing on March 13 at 11 a.m. on ESPNU while the men's championship game will televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 2 p.m. on March 12.

The tournament tips off March 7-12 at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC. For more information on the MEAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament, log on to www.MEAChoops.com.
