MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

North Carolina A&T freshman Taitana Cooper was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Norfolk State's Arielle Knafel earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Cooper (5-11, Fr., OH, Chicago, Illinois) led her team to a non-conference win over Savannah State last week. The outside hitter tallied 14 kills while hitting 61-percent from the floor on 21 total attempts. She added one ace and six digs in the 3-0 sweep of the Lady Tigers.

Knafel (5-9, Fr., OH, Greenwood, Indiana) recorded 33 kills and 48 digs to aid the Spartans to a 1-3 mark last week. In a non-conference win over Hampton, Knafel totaled a match-high eight aces along with 12 kills and 16 digs. She added three more aces, five assists and three blocks for the week.

Other Top Performers:

Kat Agson
(B-CU) assisted the Lady Cats with 19 kills, five blocks and seven digs last weekend.

Sonja Banicevic (DSU) averaged 25.7 digs in three matches for the Lady Hornets.

Zoe Bowens
(UMES) was named to the Fiesta Bowl All-Tournament Team after totaling 33 kills and nine digs in three matches for the Lady Hawks.

Maria Ceccarelli (FAMU) aided the Lady Rattlers with 23 kills, five assists, five blocks (four solo) and 18 digs in three matches.

Tosin Elebute (How) totaled 45 kills, including a 20 kill performance against Youngstown State to aid the Lady Bison to a 1-4 mark last week.

Krysta Gardner (B-CU) led her team in hitting with 39 kills and aided the defense with 18 digs and seven blocks in four contests.

Jarne Gleaton (SCSU) had back-to-back double digit kill performances in losses to UNC-Wilmington and Central Florida last week.

Maline Vaitai (UMES) recorded 18 kills and four digs in a loss to Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
