Vaitai, Bowens Tally Double-Digit Kills In 3-1 Loss To TAMUCC
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Freshman Maline Vaitai had a match-high 18 kills and junior Zoe Bowens chipped in with 11 for Maryland Eastern Shore against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi but the Islanders were too much Saturday at the Rolle Activity Center, topping the Hawks, 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 17-25).
The loss for UMES was its second straight and drops its record to 1-4 while TAMUCC improves to 2-4 with the win.
Shannon Hullum and Emma Ridley each had 11 kills to lead the Islanders. TAMUCC outhit UMES .235-.080 for the match.
Stephanie Sierra led the UMES offense with 36 of the team's 40 assists. Vaitai and Kaveingna Lea'Aetoa had two aces apiece which junior Rebecca Prado and freshman Jingqiao Li tallied foublr digit digs with 14 and 10, respectively.
Logan Bourque had 40 assists for the Islanders and Paige Hoffler had 12 digs.

Griffins Take Control Late, Drop Spartans, 3-1
RADFORD, Va. - The Norfolk State volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the Radford Tournament, losing to Canisius, 3-1, and East Tennessee State, 3-0.
Against Canisius, Junior Jasmine Frazier led all players with 12 kills and also added seven blocks. Freshmen Arielle Knafel and Noelle Eagles posted 16 and 13 digs, respectively, while sophomore Kristen Burt, subbing for regular starter Nicole Kessner, added 30 assists.
Despite limiting Canisius to a .123 attack percentage, the Spartans were done in by 39 attack errors, resulting in a -.024 hitting percentage. The Griffins also had an 8-4 lead in service aces and a slight 11-10 advantage in blocks.
NSU posted a season-high in blocks and had more than the previous two matches combined.
Janelle Davis had eight kills and 19 assists to lead the way for Canisius, while Allyson Severyn (12 digs) and Samantha Good (six blocks) anchored the Griffin defense.

NSU dropped to 3-5 on the year. The Spartans will head to the Coastal Carolina Classic next weekend.

SC State Goes 0-2 on Day Two of the UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Tournament
Wilmington, NC- SC State went on 0-2 the final day of the UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Tournament. SC State finished 0-3 in the tournament and 1-6 on the season.
In its first match of the day, SC State fell to host UNC-Wilmington (UNC-W), 0-3, (19-25, 14-25, 17-25). The Lady Bulldogs could not find any offense in the match as they hit a dismal -.011 for the game.
Senior Jarne Gleaton was the only player for SC State to record double-digit kills with a game-high 12. Sophomore Melissa Robinson picked up a game-high 10 digs and Shabree Roberson put down five block-assists for the Lady Bulldogs in the loss.
Keli Clear led the offensive attack for UNC-W with 10 kills. Delanie Dolan had 14 digs in the victory.
In its final game of the tournament, SC State fell to UCF, 0-3, (13-25, 17-25, 18-25). Gleaton continued to play solid for the Lady Bulldogs, leading the way offensively with her second straight double-digit kill effort of 12. Brendell Studnicka led the way defensively with six digs.
Angelica Crump recorded a game-high 13 kills while Brittanie Wallace and Meredith Murphy each picked up 10 digs in the victory for UCF.
Junior Setter Bria Brimmer was named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing the tournament with four kills, 56 set-assists and 22 digs.

Illinois Sweeps Lady Rattlers, 3-0
AUSTIN, Texas (Sept. 4) - Florida A&M dropped their sixth straight as the University of Illinois defeated the Lady Rattlers, 3-0 (9-25, 15-25, 15-25) in their final match of the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational, here Saturday afternoon at Gregory Gymnasium.
FAMU (0-6) was paced by Katherine Huanec with five kills, followed by Lorin Rucker with three. Diana Gonzalez led the Lady Rattlers in assists with 11, followed by Susan Egoavil with 12 digs.
UI (5-0) led the way for the fighting Illini with 10 kills, followed by Michelle Bartsch with nine. Hillary Haen and Annie Luhrsen led Illinois in assists with Luhrsen tallied 18 and Haen finished with 17. Jennifer Bonilla finished with a match high 13 digs.

Loyola Rallies Past Coppin State
BALTIMORE -- Coppin State dominated the first set against Loyola (Md.), but the Greyhounds rallied to win the final three sets and defeat the Eagles 11-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-18 in the final match of the Battle of Baltimore Tournament on Saturday at Morgan State.
Vanity Massey and Yolanda Reid led Coppin State with seven kills each, while Alexandria Malesick and Ashley Saunders added six kills.
The Eagles also received 10 digs from Tyler Phillips and 24 assists from Haley Beechler.
Loyola was led by Nina Camaioni who had a match-high 16 kills and Katie Dircks who had 11 kills.
