North Carolina A&T Earns Firs Win Over the Season; Tops Savannah State 3-0
Tatiana Cooper hammered 14 kills to the floor to lead the North Carolina A&T to a 3-0 non-conference win (25-15, 25-22, 25-12) over Savannah State at Corbett Sports Center.
Cooper put together a .619 hitting percentage after producing just one attack error. Eight of Cooper's 14 kills came in the third set when she did not make an attack error on 10 attempts.
Senior Amber Inman had 27 assists, while sophomore Andrea Evans finished with five kills, three blocks and four digs.

Eagles Drop Opener of Battle of Baltimore Tournament
BALTIMORE -- Alexandria Malesick and Vanity Massey each recorded three kills, but Coppin State fell to UMBC 25-16, 25-9, 25-11 in its opening match of the Battle of Baltimore Tournament on Friday at the RAC Arena.
UMBC won its season opener by hitting .238 and limiting Coppin State to a -.103 attack percentage. The Retrievers also had more digs (40-35) and more blocks (7-2) in handing the Eagles their fifth consecutive loss .
Ashley Saunders added two kills and a team-high seven digs for Coppin State, while Haley Beechler had 10 assists and four digs.
Ali Goc had 12 kills and a .458 hitting percentage to lead UMBC, while Iman Kennedy added eight kills and five blocks.
Towson Tops Coppin State in Battle of Baltimore
BALTIMORE -- Stephanie Johnson and Alexandria Malesick each had three kills, but Towson kept its unbeaten record alive with a 25-5, 25-10, 25-9 victory over Coppin State on Friday in the Battle of Baltimore at the RAC Arena.
Susan Gansor had 11 kills and hit .733 to lead the Tigers who improved to 6-0 on the season.
The Tigers also received 31 assists, six digs and three kills from Evan Schulz and nine kills and five digs from Rachel Gambow.
Towson hit a blistering .500 for the match, while Coppin State hit -.147.
Vanity Massey and Ashley Saunders each had four digs to lead the Eagles, while freshman Haley Beechler added seven assists and two digs.

SC State Falls to UNC-Greensboro at the UNC-W Courtyard by Marriott Tournament
Wilmington, NC--SC State fell to UNC-Greensboro, 0-3, (15-25, 16-25, 17-25), in its opening game of the UNC-W Courtyard by Marriott Tournament.
Junior Peri Ligons, sophomore E. Paige Webb and freshman Desire Waller each record six kills in the match for SC State. Junior Bria Brimmer put up 23 set assists and a game-high nine digs for the Lady Bulldogs in the loss.

B-CU Volleyball Drops Two Matches at Stetson Tournament
DeLAND, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman displayed an up-an-down day to open the Stetson Tournament on Friday. B-CU opened play against the Cowgirls of Wyoming, playing a tough game, in which they outdigged Wyoming, but fell by heavy margins against the more athletic western team, 3-0. Facing a team, in Stetson, that a solidly played game could put it away, the LadyCats came up short and never got into the flow, falling 3-1 to the Lady Hatters on their home court.
The Cowgirls went right at the LadyCats, hitting a .320 as a team and holding B-CU down, with a negative hitting percentage, winning the first set 25-12. However, the LadyCats bounced back, and got their defense under control and UW came out on top 25-19. Wyoming moved in to finish off the match, claiming 25-12 victory in the third.
In their second match of the day, B-CU collected a season-high 32 errors against the Stetson Lady Hatters.
The LadyCats showed good hitting up front at times, but struggled to find scoring elsewhere. Krysta Gardner put in 13 kills to lead the team, while Linda Nwabuko was just behind with 12, and a .200 hitting percentage. The two combined for more than half of the team's total kills. Alexis Bliese set up the attack, collecting 25 assists, while Jennifer Jimenez led the team with her career-best 21 digs.

UMES Falls To Rider At Fiesta Bowl Tournament
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Junior Zoe Bowens had a match-high-tying 12 kills but it wasn't enough as Maryland Eastern Shore women's team fell to Rider, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19), in the opening match of Fiesta Bowl Volleyball Tournament in Northern Arizona's Rolle Activity Center Friday.
Rider (2-3) outhit UMES (1-3) .263-.136, committing five less errors than UMES.
Rider was led by Katelyn Thompson with 12 kills in 27 attacks.
UMES struggled from the outset, trailing, 12-7, at the first timeout of the first game. The Hawks, though, rallied scoring seven of the next nine points to pull even at 14-14 before the Broncs called a timeout of their own. The run included a pair of kills from redshirt senior Samantha Chukwura and four Rider errors.
Stephanie Sierra and junior Desirae Ceniceros collected of UMES' 27 assists with Sierra picking up 14. Junior Rebecca Prado had match-high nine digs.

Radford Sweeps Norfolk State, 3-0
RADFORD, Va. - Competing in its first road trip of the season, Norfolk State fell to Radford, 3-0, Friday afternoon in the Radford Tournament.
The Highlanders played solid ball in winning, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20. The win put Radford at 1-4 on the season, while NSU fell to 3-3.
Freshman Arielle Knafel had 14 kills to lead the way for the Spartans, who hit .194 for the match, their second-best output of the season. The Highlanders, though, attacked at a .361 clip and committed just eight attack errors for the entire match.
Knafel hit .379 for the match and also contributed nine digs. Sophomore Charlotte Armstead added nine kills, and freshman Noelle Eagles posted a match-high 14 digs. Junior Nicole Kessner paced the offense with 26 assists.

LADY RATTLERS FALL TO LONG BEACH STATE, 3-1
AUSTIN, Texas (Sept. 3) - Florida A&M dropped their fifth match in a row as Long Beach State defeated the Lady Rattlers, 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 25-10, 25-20) in the second match of the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational, Friday afternoon Gregory Gymnasium.
FAMU (0-5) had only one Lady Rattler to record double-digit kills in Maria Ceccareli with 11 kills, while Pamela Barrera finished with nine. Diana Gonzalez tallied a match high 27 assists, while Susan Egoavil led the team in digs with 11.
LBSU (5-0) had three players to finish with double-digit kills, with Janisa Johnson leading the way with 18 kills, followed by Haleigh Hampton with 14, while Caitlin Ledoux added 12. Ashley Vazquez finished with a match high 45 assists, while Lauren Minkel finished with a team high 15 digs.
