Navy Tops Coppin State 25-23, 25-21, 25-14
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Junior Ashley Saunders had a match-high 15 kills, but Navy escaped with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 non-conference victory over Coppin State Tuesday night in Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse.
Saunders also added six digs, two blocks and hit .333 for the match. She has reached double figures in kills in three of the last four matches and four times this season.
Navy (5-12) was led by Veronica French who had 14 kills and seven digs, while Holly Berger added 20 digs.
Coppin State (1-12) hit .112 for the match and also received five kills and 13 digs from Vanity Massey and 15 digs from Tyler Phillips.
The Eagles held a lead midway through the first set, but could not hold off the Midshipmen.
A pair of kills from Massey and a kill by Alexandria Malesick gave Coppin State a 20-17 lead. The Eagles upped the lead to 22-18 before the Midshipmen rallied.
Three kills by French knotted the score at 23-23 and Navy closed the first set on a pair of Coppin State errors.
Coppin State again held a lead midway through the second set, but Navy once again rallied to claim the victory.
A kill by Saunders and a Navy attack error gave the Eagles a 16-15 lead, but the Midshipmen answered with a 4-0 run to take a 19-16 lead.
A kill by Saunders brought the Eagles to within 20-19, but Navy outscored Coppin State 5-2 to close out the second set.
Navy jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the third set and never looked back to claim the third set and clinch the victory.

Hens Sweep Past Hornets
Newark, Del. (Sep. 28, 2010) --- Delaware State was held to a .030 hitting percentage, its second lowest of the season, in a 3-0 loss to Delaware this evening. The scores were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-17.
The loss snapped a five-match win streak for the Hornets, who fell to 7-9 on the season. The Hens improved to 12-4.
Delaware posted a .291 hitting percentage in the match.
Kim Stewart was Delaware's top performer with a team-high 14 kills to go along with 11 digs. Katie Dennehy had 10 kills, while Jess Chason recorded a game-high 38 assists for the Hens.
Sarah Wheatcroft and Jessica Croucher led Delaware State with six kills each. Sonja Banicevic had a team-high 15 digs, while Martina Ferrari dished out 20 assists. Ashley Hermann led all players with four service aces for the Hornets.

South Carolina State Falls to Georgia Southern, 3-0
SC State dropped a non-conference decision to Georgia Southern, 3-0, (15-25, 18-25, 19-25). The match was contested at the Hanner Fieldhouse on the campus of Georgia Southern University.
Sophomore Paige Webb had six kills with nine digs and junior setter Bria Brimmer put up 23 assists in the loss. Georgia Southern was led by Parker Small with eight kills. Kate Van Dyke put up a game-high 30 assists in the victory.
