Spartans Take Top 3 Spots, Team Title at W&M

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Norfolk State men's cross country team continued its winning ways on Saturday morning at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by William & Mary, taking the top three individual places en route to the team title on the 6K (3.73-mile) Eastern State Hospital Course.

NSU tallied 20 points. William & Mary was second with 65.

Junior Josef Tessema paced the Spartans for the second week in a row with another first-place finish. He crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 27 seconds. Sophomore Vincent Rono was second in 18:33, and junior Amos Kipkosgei was third in 18:34.

UMES Cross Country Teams Place Third At Towson Invite

HUNT VALLEY, Md. - Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's cross country teams each placed third in their respective races at the Towson Invitational late Saturday morning.

In the men's race, sophomore Basil Melek and senior Amon Kiprotich were the lone runners to prevent a sweep by Navy, who won the race with 18 points.

Melek placed third with a time of 25:58.83 while Kiprotich finished 11th in 26:50.06 to lead the Hawks to a third place team finish with 81 points.

Navy's Robert Patterson won the race with a time of 25:37.36.

The UMES women finished third with 92 points while Towson ended the day with a perfect score of 15 points.

Junior Cynthia Anais ran a 19:54.80, which was good for 7th place with fellow senior Eunice Jones finished 9th in 20:14.80.

NSU Women Place Third at W&M

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -Norfolk State's women's cross country team earned a third-place finish on Saturday at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by William & Mary.

William & Mary won the team title with 27 points, followed Hampton with 49 and NSU with 85.

Sophomore Kellen Rutto paced the Spartans with a 12th-place finish on the 4K (2.49-mile) course. She ran a time of 15 minutes, 11 seconds.

Junior Jamia Hutto was second among NSU runners in 16:35. She placed 29th. Fellow junior Syeeda Gee was next in a tie for 35th (17:05), followed by Lillian Morales-Gonzalez in 37th (17:13) and senior Jennifer Chichester in 38th (17:22).
