Jacksonville Extends FAMU's Losing Streak To 12
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Sept. 24) - Jacksonville extended Florida A&M's losing streak to 12 games, dating back to last season as the Dolphins defeated the Lady Rattlers, 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-17) Friday evening at Swisher Gymnasium.
JU (7-8) outhit FAMU (0-11) as the Dolphins finished with 42 kills, while Lady Rattlers only garnered 26.
Maria Ceccarelli was the only Lady Rattler to finish in double-digit kills as she tallied 10, while Pamela Barrera finished with six. Diana Gonzalez led the team in assists with 19, while Susan Egoavil finished with a team high 13 digs.
JU was led by Aidan Yeager with 11 kills, while Kathryn Kane finished with 10. Kendal Courtney dished out a game high 37 assists, while Ashley August finished the set with a game high 14 digs.

UMES Tops Hampton, 3-1, At NCCU Tournament
DURHAM, N.C. - Reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week Kaveingna Lea'Aetoa led a group of three in double digits with a match-high 15 kills as Maryland Eastern Shore defeated Hampton in non-conference action, 3-1 (25-10, 24-26, 25-22, 25-13), in the NCCU Tournament at McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium Friday.
Freshman Maline Vaitai and redshirt senior Samantha Chukwura tallied 14 and 11 kills respectively, to help the Hawks to a season-high .327 hitting percentage. UMES had 49 kills and 14 errors on 107 attacks while holding Hampton to .153 (35-18-111) from the floor.
Lea'Aetoa also posted a match-best .653 percentage with the 15 kills on 23 attacks with no errors.
The win gives UMES (6-8) victories in five of its last six, while Hampton (1-15) lost its second match of the year to the Hawks.
Aaryn Harrison was the only HU player with double-figure kills with 14. Sheileen Pagan had six aces and 13 digs and Juliana Chavez registered 26 assists for the Pirates.

Eagles Split Day One At NCCU Volleyball Tournament
Eagles rally to defeat South Carolina State in five, after falling to ETSU
DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central (3-14) put on its best all-around performance of the year in volleyball action Saturday evening as they rallied from two sets down to defeat the scrappy Bulldogs of South Carolina State (4-13) in five, 3-2, after being swept by East Tennessee State (11-5), 3-0, in earlier action to conclude day one of the 2010 NCCU Volleyball Tournament at McDougald-McLendon Gym.
The Eagles used a season-high .230 clip and 13 blocks to rally past the Bulldogs, coming from two sets down to win three consecutive sets. NCCU earned its third win of the season, improving to 3-14 on the year, after defeating SCSU by scores of 20-25, 14-25, 25-19, 25-22 and 15-10. It marked the Eagles' second five-set match of the season as they hold a perfect 2-0 record when playing five sets. SCSU dropped to 4-13 on the season.
Junior outside hitter Maritsann Sinclair notched her second career double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. She was also the Eagles' leader in both categories against the Buccaneers with seven kills and seven digs. Leading the Eagle offense was senior Belinda Behncke-Biney with a match-high 20 kills on a .312 hitting performance.
The Bulldogs put on an impressive performance of their own as they recorded a .209 clip with 62 kills to go along with 56 assists, 60 digs and six blocks. Bria Brimmer dished 52 of SCSU's 56 assists, allowing four Bulldog student-athletes to collect double-figure kills and three to notch double-figure digs, including two double-doubles.
Jarne Gleaton notched a double-double, hitting .282 with a team-high 15 kills and 10 digs. Her counterpart was Elizabeth Webb, who earned a double-double with 14 kills and a team-high 18 digs. Shabree Roberson hit a .348 with 13 kills and led in blocks with three. Desire Waller added 12 kills and Melissa Robinson had 14 digs.
Earlier in the day, the Eagles battled the powerful Buccaneers of ETSU, where NCCU was swept in three by scores of 15-25, 16-25 and 13-25. NCCU dropped to 2-14 on the year as ETSU improved to 11-5. It was the second meeting between the two programs as the Bucs maintained their series advantage with a 2-0 lead.

East Tennessee Sweeps UMES, 3-0

ETSU improves to 12-5 with the win - its third straight - and UMES falls to 6-9 with the loss, which breaks a two-match winning streak.
Sophomore Stephanie Sierra had 21 assists and junior Rebecca Prado had a match-high 11 digs for UMES.
Erin Ryan led ETSU with 10 kills while Jamie Stancliff had seven block assists to pace the Buccaneers' 16-block defense.
