MEAC CROSS COUNTRY SEASON BEGINS THIS WEEK

The 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country season begins this week with 12 of the 13 MEAC men's and women's programs in action.

North Carolina Central kicks of the season today at the Duke Dual meet. The Eagles will also compete on Saturday at the Campbell Invite.

The defending MEAC men's and women's champion Norfolk State Spartans will travel to Princess Anne, Maryland to compete at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite. In addition to the Hawks, NSU will compete against fellow MEAC foes Delaware State and Hampton.

The Spartan men will begin their quest for a 10th consecutive MEAC men's cross country title. NSU returns eight letterwinners from last year's team that concluded the season ranked 18th in the southeast region.  

On the women's side, the Spartans welcome back five members from last year's championship team and three newcomers for the upcoming season.

Other MEAC teams in action during the conference's opening weekend include: Bethune-Cookman and  Savannah State (Jacksonville Dolphin Tri-Meet), Florida A&M (Troy Invite). Coppin State and Morgan State (Baltimore Metro Meet), North Carolina A&T (Campbell Invite) and South Carolina State (South Carolina Gamecock Invite).

The 2010 MEAC Cross Country Championship will be held Saturday, October 30 in Princess Anne, Maryland.
