Norfolk State University Athletics Director Marty L. Miller announced Friday that Brandon Duvall has been named the Spartan volleyball team's interim head coach for the 2010-11 school year, effective Aug. 12.
Duvall steps in for Jennifer Fry, who accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State earlier this week.
"I'm extremely grateful to the NSU administration for giving me this opportunity and believing that I can help lead the volleyball program to another level," Duvall said. "I'm excited to remain a part of the NSU program, and I look forward to an exciting season ahead."
Duvall has served as the Spartans' assistant coach for the last two seasons. Previously, Duvall was an assistant at Virginia Wesleyan College in 2006, when he helped the women's team to a 19-9 overall record and a third-place finish in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.
Prior to his stint VWC, Duvall was the assistant boys volleyball coach at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Va., from 2003-06. He helped the Wildcats to the 2004 and 2005 Southeastern District regular-season titles. Duvall also had assisting stints with the girls teams at Ocean Lakes High School (1998) and Tallwood High School (2002), and served as the girls head coach at Ocean Lakes in 1999.
Duvall has also worked with the Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club. Duvall has been the assistant for the nationally ranked girls' 18-and-under team since 2003 and was the head coach of the 15-and-under girls team from 2006-07. He also worked with the Tidewater Volleyball Club from 2001-03, assisting with the girls 18-and-under team and leading the 15-and-under team.
Duvall graduated from Old Dominion University in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies.
