Norfolk State's Arsenio Culver made his debut in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's regional rankings, which were released for the final time of the 2010 season last week.
Culver breaks into the men's Atlantic Region at No. 20 in singles. The first-team All-MEAC selection tallied a 13-4 singles record as a sophomore this past season. He defeated opponents from East Carolina, Liberty, Delaware, James Madison and MEAC champion South Carolina State in singles action.
Culver also enjoyed a stellar doubles season with partner and fellow sophomore Ben Marks. The pair went 7-4 at No. 1 doubles, including a win over the No. 6 ranked doubles team in the Carolina Region, Rob Lowe and Frideric Prandecki of North Carolina State.
"We are very excited for Arsenio. Having this end-of-the-year ranking has been one of our goals and this will carry over to next year, which will give Arsenio opportunities to possibly get a national ranking," NSU head tennis coach Matthew Halfpenny said. "Arsenio did a great job this past year working hard and developing his game. We are very encouraged about next year, and if Arsenio keeps moving in the direction he is going, he could accomplish many of his goals."
