Gators Eliminate Bulldogs In First-Round Of NCAA Tourney

 

The defending MEAC men's tennis champion South Carolina State (14-11) dropped an heartbreaking 4-0 loss to SEC foe  No.6 Florida Gators Saturday afternoon at Ring Tennis Complex.

The Gators jumped up early winning the doubles point with No.1 Antoine Benneteau/Alexandre Lacroix defeating Gabriel Meana/Radek Pivonka and No.3 Bob Van Overbeek/Daniel Cash defeated Peteris Vinogradvos/David Grund to earns doubles point.

"I thought our men's team was in better shape than the women's. Florida's one of the best teams in the country and they certainly showed it today, stated SC State head coach Hardeep Judge." "They were just a good team and were very well prepared."

In men's single action, No. 1 Alexandre Lacroix (7) defeated Gabriel Meana  6-0, 6-1; No. 3 Antoine Benneteau defeated Peteris Vinogradovs 6-2, 6-0; and No. 6 Nassim Slilam defeated Jan Langer  6-3, 6-0

Judge stated,  "It was a great experience and we are continuing to improve every year and for a small school, I think we are coming along well." "With the players that we have coming in next year, we are going to be a lot better."

South Carolina State closes out the season with a 14-11 overall record.
