Breanne Parr singled in the tying run and pinch runner Jessica Langley scored the winning run on a wild pitch as Delaware State rallied to defeat Coppin State 4-3 eliminating the Eagles from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The Hornets rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning after Coppin State had taken a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Delaware State (28-19) advances to an elimination game on Friday at 10 a.m., while Coppin State concludes the best season in school history with a 22-22 overall record.
The Eagles appeared to be on its way to remaining alive in the tournament when they scored three times to take the lead.
With two outs, Jade Dudley singled to left field and Paige Arnold followed with a home run to left that tied the score at 2-2.
Charma Robinson reached on an error and advanced to second on an obstruction call on Delaware State. Nicole Boggs followed with a single up the middle that scored Robinson and gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead.
Delaware State answered right back in the top of the sixth inning to regain the lead.
Andrea Waters led off the inning with a ground-rule double to left and came in to score when Parr grounded a single up the middle to tie the game at 3-3.
Langley pinch ran for Parr and advanced to third when Janelle Lukens reached on a fielder's choice. Kelsey Lewis, who pinch ran for Lukens, stole second and then Langley scored and Lewis moved to third when Arnold uncorked a wild pitch.
The Hornets then held off Coppin State scoring opportunities in both the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory.
