The Delaware State bowling team had a short stay in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
The seventh-seeded Hornets (98-36) were bounced from the double-elimination tourney after a four-games-to-two loss to No. 3 Vanderbilt in a Baker format match this afternoon. DSU suffered its first tournament loss, 4-0, to No. 2 Arkansas State this morning.
"I'm so proud of our team and all that was accomplished this year," said Delaware State first-year head coach Ricki Williams-Ellison, who led the Hornets to their second consecutive MEAC championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. "The girls gave me everything they had today, and all season long. This is a great (NCAA) tournament field, and we faced some tough teams today. Our elimination today takes nothing away from the great season we had."
In the Vanderbilt match, Delaware State had four open frames en route to a 170-147 loss.
The Hornets bounced back to even the match at 1-1 after a 245-178 victory in game two. DSU opened the game with five strikes.
The Commodores had a string of six consecutive strikes to win game three, 241-183, and open up a 2-1 lead in the match.
Delaware State evened the contest at 2-2 after a 198-184 victory in game four. The Hornets had marks in each frame, including strikes in the seventh and eighth.
Vanderbilt had five strikes in its 200-171 victory game five. The Commodores took game six, 185-165, to close out the match.
In the Arkansas State contest, the Red Wolves got off to a fast start and never looked back.
ASU rolled six strikes en route to a 232-191 win in game 1. The Hornets were hurt by an open in the seventh frame. The Red Wolves did not have an open frame until the fourth game.
Delaware State led game four, 173-161, after eight frames, but suffered an open in the tenth frame. ASU recorded a strike in the ninth frame and totaled 20 pins in the tenth.
