DSU, UMES to Compete in NCAA Bowling Championship

The reigning MEAC Champion Delaware State Lady Hornets and Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks were selected as part of the eight-team field that will compete for the 2010 National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship beginning today through Saturday, April 10 at the Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, NJ.

The Lady Hornets (102-38) will enter tournament play ranked fifth in the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. DSU, who captured their second consecutive MEAC Championship this season, will be making their second appearance in the NCAA Bowling Championship.

DSU won two games before falling to eventual champ Nebraska in the semifinals last year. The 2009 tournament victories were the first for any Delaware State sports team in NCAA post-season competition.

Maryland Eastern Shore (100-30) is currently ranked first in the NTCA poll and will be making their seventh straight appearance at the NCAA Bowling Championship.

In 2008, the Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks defeated Arkansas State University, 4-2, to capture the national championship at Thunder Alley in Omaha, Nebraska.

The victory was the first national title in any sport, for Maryland Eastern Shore and the first women's bowling national championship for the MEAC.

The eight-team field includes the following teams, all selected at large:

Arkansas State University
University of Central Missouri
Delaware State University
Fairleigh Dickinson University
University of Maryland Eastern Shore
University of Nebraska, Lincoln
New Jersey City University
Vanderbilt University

Friday and Saturday's matches will be broadcast live on www.NCAA.com. The 2010 NCAA Bowling Championship final will be televised live on ESPNU on Saturday (Apr. 10) at 8:30 p.m. EST. A re-broadcast is scheduled for Apr. 11 on ESPN at 3 p.m.
