MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

 

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., April 5, 2010 - Hampton's Rebecca Magett earned MEAC Softball Player of the Week honors, the conference announced today.  Coppin State teammates Nicole Boggs was named Rookie of the Week while Paige Arnold earned the Pitcher of the Week accolade, respectively.

Magett (C/IF, 5-8, So., Grand Rapids, Mich.) led the Lady Pirates to a three-game sweep against Maryland E. Shore and became the first Hampton softball player to record four home runs in a single game.  She finished the week 7-for-10 (.700) with four home runs, two doubles and eight RBI.  She also posted eight runs and walked once.

Boggs (3B, 5-6, Fr., Great Mills, Md.) led the Lady Eagles to a series sweep over Morgan State with a .571 batting average.  She finished 4-for-7 in the three games and scored two runs and drove in a run.  Defensively she tallied four assists and two putouts at third base.

Arnold (P, 5-7, So., Detroit, Mich.) notched three conference wins last week over Morgan State, the first for the Lady Eagles over the local rival since 2006.  She recorded an ERA of 0.000 and did not allow an earned run in the three games.  She posted back-to-back shutouts in the doubleheader sweep on Saturday.  For the week she struck out 16 batters in 16 innings, allowing just one walk, while limiting opponents to a .119 batting average.

Jasmine Donaldson (FAMU) hit perfectly (3-for-3) and posted a run in the third game of a series sweep of Winston-Salem State last week.

Jade Dudley (CSU) hit .500 (4-for-8) including one home run and three RBI in a three-game sweep over Morgan State.

Hope Fletcher (NCAT) finished with a .667 batting average including one RBI in the third game against South Carolina State.

Trina Kindred (How) hit 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs and five RBI in the final game of a three-game series against Delaware State. 

Jasmine James (UMES) finished 1-for-2 in game one against Norfolk State including a double and one stolen base.

Jessie Larson (NCAT) hit .500 from the plate in four games including one home run, two doubles and seven RBI to aid the Lady Aggies to a 3-1 mark last week.

Jennifer Luper (NCAT) earned two wins over South Carolina State with an ERA of 0.000 in 12 innings with 15 strikeouts.

Carly Martin (How) struck out four batters and gave up only one earned run in 3.1 innings to record the win over Delaware State.

Arianna Stewart (FAMU) hit a double against Winston-Salem State to give the Lady Rattlers a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Amanda Reyes (FAMU) picked up a pair of wins and recorded a 0.50 ERA in 14 innings against Winston-Salem State.

Jeannette Sauceda (NSU) posted a .400 batting average in five games for the Spartans including one home run and three RBI to help NSU finish 3-2 for the week.

Sara Spanka (NSU) hit 3-for-3 in the first game against Maryland E. Shore including two runs and two RBI.


Channell Thompson (SCSU) hit .538 in five games with a .451 on base percentage and a .516 slugging percentage. 


Alyssa Velazquez (NSU) earned the win over Maryland E. Shore in the second game of the double-header with an ERA of 0.000 in five innings pitched including seven strikeouts.
