The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its women's pairings for the 2010 MEAC Basketball Tournament, March 9-13 at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. North Carolina A&T will enter the tournament as the top seed after concluding the regular-season with a 14-2 mark in MEAC play.
The Lady Aggies earned their third tournament first-round bye and will open up play on Wednesday, March 10 at 12:30 p.m. They will face the winner of the No. 8 South Carolina State/No. 9 Coppin State matchup.
Tuesday's games will begin with No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore taking on No. 10 Delaware State at 11 a.m. The Lady Hawks clinched the seventh seed tonight with a 58-55 win over DSU.
South Carolina State earned the eighth seed with a tiebreaker over Coppin State and will meet the Lady Eagles in the first round at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. No. 6 Bethune- Cookman will face off against No. 11 Norfolk State in the final women's game of the day at 4 p.m.
Wednesday's women's basketball action begins at 10 a.m. with Hampton taking on the winner of the UMES/DSU game. The Lady Pirates and Morgan State Lady Bears both finished the season with a 12-4 mark and will share the conference's runners-up trophy. Hampton won the tiebreaker over Morgan State to secure the No. 2 spot and the Lady Bears earned the number three seed.
The Lady Bears will take on the winner of the No. 6 Bethune-Cookman/No. 11 Norfolk State game on Thursday, March 11 at Noon.
Howard secured the number four seed and will matchup against Florida A&M on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Florida A&M (9-7) won the head-to-head tiebreaker over Bethune-Cookman to earn the number five seed.
Coppin State (5-11), Delaware State (4-12) and Norfolk State (0-16) are seeded ninth through 11th, respectively.
The 2010 regular season champion, regular-season runners-up, first-team members and top honorees including Player, Rookie, Defensive and Coach of the Year selections, will be recognized in pre-game presentations prior to the honorees first games in tournament play. Earlier today Morgan's State's Corin Adams was named Player of the Year. Howard's Saadia Doyle was selected the MEAC Rookie of the Year and Hampton's Quanneisha Perry earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Bethune-Cookman's Vanessa Inge was voted by her peers at the MEAC Coach of the Year.
The 2010 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips-off Tuesday, March 9, and will conclude on Saturday, March 13 with the men's and women's championship games. The men's finale will begin at 2 p.m. live on ESPN2, followed by women's game at 5 p.m. The women's finale will air taped delayed on ESPNU, March 14 at 11 a.m.
