Lady Bears Upset N.C. A&T, 73-69; Hawkins Hits a Career-High 23 Points
BALTIMORE, Md. (March 1, 2010)-Erin Hawkins came off the bench and scored a game- and career-high 23 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 3-for-3 from three-point range, to lead Morgan State to a 73-69 upset victory over visiting North Carolina A&T on Monday evening in a MEAC game at Hill Field House.
With the win, Morgan State improved to 8-1 at home and ended a five-game losing skid to the Lady Aggies, who had won 11 of the previous 13 meetings, prior to tonight's game. Morgan State's last victory over A&T came on Feb. 20, 2006, a 73-68 win at Hill Field House. The Lady Bears' victory also moved them into a second-place tie with Hampton, which was idle tonight, in the league standings.
Corin Adams, who entered the game as Morgan's all-time leading scorer, male or female with 1,994 points, surpassing Marvin Webster (1,990) added 18 points, giving her 2,012 for her career. Adams also tallied a game-high seven assists, as well as a game-high eight steals in the win. Theresa Davis chipped in with 13 points and Kristina Rosario, who earlier in the day was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
N.C. A&T (20-9, 13-2 MEAC), who had already wrapped up its third consecutive MEAC regular-season title, was led by Ta'Wuana Cook's game-high 27 points, while Jaleesa Sams and reserve Amber Calvin added 11 points apiece.

Lady Rattlers Hold Off South Carolina State 83-80 In Overtime
ORGANGEBURG, S.C. (March 1) - Florida A&M pulled out a 83-80 overtime win over South Carolina State, Monday night at the S-H-M Memorial Center.
FAMU (17-10, 8-7 MEAC) was paced by Antonia Bennett with a game high 27 points and 12 rebounds. Tamkea McKelton finished with 21 points, while Deidre Jones added 12. LaShonda Gaines dished out a team high five assists.
SCSU's (10-18, 5-11) Whitney Wiley scored a team high 21 points, while Sophilia Hipps added 19. Tiana Hemphill led the Lady Bulldogs on the boards with 11 rebounds.
Jones gave the Lady Rattlers a 78-72 lead as she connected on a pair of free throws with 1:58 remaining in the overtime stanza.
A Wiley three pointer would cut FAMU's lead to 82-80 with 11 seconds to go.
Christian Rateree would score the Lady Rattlers final point of the game for an 83-80 win.
FAMU finished the game shooting 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the floor, while SCSU shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63).
The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Rattlers both finished with 38 rebounds apiece.

Manley Helps Coppin State To 73-50 Rout Of NSU
BALTIMORE, Md. - Jeanine Manley scored a game-high 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field to lead the Coppin State to a 73-50 win over Norfolk State at the Physical Education Complex on Monday night. Manley had 17 points in the second half and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Things were close for the entire first half. The largest lead CSU (10-17, 5-10 MEAC) held in the opening period was 11 points, 25-14, after a three-point play by Manley at the 9:48 mark. But NSU (4-21, 0-15) closed the gap and was only down seven, 38-31, at halftime.
Manley scored 10 straight points for the Lady Eagles to start the second half which was capped by another three-point play with 14:24 left in the game. CSU slowly pulled away from the Spartans and led by as many as 25, 73-48, with less than a minute left in the contest.
Lakeytah Irving had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Eagles.
Recca Trice led NSU with a career-high 12 points. Marian Brooks led the defense with eight rebounds.

Lady Wildcats Run Away with Win Over Winston-Salem in the Second Half
Although B-CU battled it out early with WSSU, the Lady Wildcats gained momentum heading to the half and outscored WSSU, 33-23 in the second half, collecting the 72-54 victory
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Bethune-Cookman wrapped up their final non-conference game, and were successful Monday evening at the C.E. Gaines Center, topping the Lady Rams 72-54 with a strong performance in the second half. .
Demetria Frank broke from her recent field goal slump, shooting 62 percent from the field, and leading all Lady Wildcat scorers with 21 points, in addition to getting after it on the boards and in the passing lanes for a team-high nine rebounds and three steals. Jalisa Isaac also scored 16 points in tonight's victory, while Euneshia Proctor tallied 10 points and five rebounds.
MaLisa Bumpus led the Lady Rams with 16 points, while Chloe Morse added eight points in the defensive effort.
