The University of Maryland Shore swept top honors as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced the 2010 All-MEAC Bowling regular season honorees on Wednesday. All awards were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Junior Maria Rodriguez was named the 2010 MEAC Player of the Year. Lady Hawks' head coach Sharon Brummell was named the MEAC Coach of the Year and Anggie Ramirez was named the 2010 MEAC Rookie of the Year.
Maria Rodriguez earned Player of the Year accolades for the second straight year. The junior totaled 9,159 pinfall in 45 games this season. She averaged a 203, including a game high 277 at the Fright Knight Invitational where she was named an All-Star. The MEAC Preseason Bowler of the Year aided her team to a 93-26 overall mark and 23-7 record in conference play this season. Rodriguez was a four-time All-Tournament team selection and recorded five top ten finishes at meets this season.
Sharon Brummell earns her fifth MEAC Coach of the Year honor. In her 12th year at the helm, the Lady Hawks posted a 93-26 overall record and 23-7 mark in MEAC play. Maryland Eastern Shore is currently ranked first in the nation in the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) Poll and won four events this season. Brummell, who led the Lady Hawks to the 2008 NCAA National Championship, was recently named to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Women's Bowling Committee.
Anggie Ramirez aided the Lady Hawks with a 191.81 average in 42 games. The freshman posted 8,056 total pinfall and recorded a game high 265 at a MEAC Northern Division Invite. Ramirez earned Player of the Week honors once this season and tallied over nine 200-plus performances.
Joining Rodriguez on the 2010 All-MEAC First-Team are teammates Paula Vilas and Martha Perez (Maryland Eastern Shore), Keisheena Waldon (Morgan State) and Angela Reynolds (Delaware State).
The All-MEAC Second-Team consists of Kristina Frahm (Maryland Eastern Shore), Adriana Jaime (Delaware State), Kalyn Washburn (Delaware State), Jazmin Bingham (Florida A&M), and Sheila-Marie Smith (Norfolk State).
The 2010 MEAC Bowling Championship begins on Friday, March 19 at the Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, North Carolina with the qualifying round. Play continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series. The championship concludes on Sunday, March 21 beginning with the semifinal round at 9:50 a.m. and concluding with the championship final at 11:45 a.m.
