The Hampton Lady Pirates earned the 15th seed in the Memphis Region of the 2010 Women's NCAA Tournament and will face the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game will air on ESPN2.
The Lady Pirates (20-11, 12-4 MEAC) won the 2010 MEAC Women's Basketball Tournament and clinched the conference's automatic bid on Saturday. Duke (27-5) won the regular-season title and sixth Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) tournament crown with a victory over N.C. State.
"When I saw our team on the TV, I screamed," said Jericka Jenkins. "I was very excited and I am ready to play Duke. I feel the keys for us to win are to defend, rebound, and take care of the ball."
"I am feeling that anything is possible and really believe in Coach Six's vision", said Freshman Deli Drunson.
The Lady Pirates are currently on a six game winning streak and will take that up streak up against the Blue Devils on Saturday.
Duke has won nine of their last 10 games. The Blue Devils will compete in their 16th consecutive and 17th overall appearances in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament. Duke previously hosted first and second round games in Cameron Indoor Stadium from 1998-2002 and in 2004. Duke has won 12 consecutive games in NCAA action played in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
