Pirates Top Rams, 55-53
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Hampton topped Winston-Salem State 55-53 on Monday night at the C.E. Gaines Center.
Paul Davis gave the Rams a 53-52 lead with 41 seconds left when he hit one of two free throws, but senior Vincent Simpson's jumper 28 seconds later gave the Pirates the late advantage.
Andrew Jackson let a 3-pointer fly with one second left that would've won the game for Winston-Salem State, but the shot wouldn't fall.
The Pirates (8-15) led by as many as seven in the second half, going up 42-35 with 11:32 to play on a Koron Reed layup. But the Rams responded with a 13-2 run, going up 48-44 at the 6:01 mark on a Brian Fisher free throw. The score was tied three times from that point, but the Pirates didn't regain the lead until Simpson's trey.
Simpson and Charles Funches each led the Pirates with 12 points, with Simpson making just one of his 11 3-point attempts. Funches went 4-for-7 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line, also pulling down a team-high nine rebounds - five on the offensive end.
Fisher led the Rams (9-13) with 11 points, while Corey Morris pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Eagles Snap Losing Streak with Win Over Florida A&M
BALTIMORE -- Kareem Brown scored 18 points and Coppin State used a strong defensive effort to snap a 13-game losing streak with a 70-44 MEAC victory over Florida A&M on Monday in the Physical Education Complex.
In posting its first victory since a win over Loyola (Md.) on Dec. 9, the Eagles dominated the second half by holding the Rattlers to 26.3 percent shooting and just 15 points.
After Brandon Bryant connected on a three-pointer with 15:22 to play in the game that cut the Coppin State lead to 40-37 the Eagles responded by holding FAMU scoreless for over 13 minutes. CSU turned a three-point lead into a 28-point cushion and notched its first MEAC win of the season.

Smith Saves Morgan State's Perfect Mark From The Free Throw Line, 48-47
BALTIMORE, Md. -Bethune-Cookman led by a point with under a minute left to play when Morgan State's Troy Smith was fouled on a loose ball rebound. The senior stepped to the line with 37 seconds left and knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Bears a 48-47 lead. The free throws turned out to be the final points of the ballgame.
Kevin Thompson had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Bears (18-7, 10-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who have won 10 straight, including their last 12 regular season conference games since last season. Cliff Reed scored a game-high 15 points (4-20 FG) to lead the Wildcats, who have lost the last five times to the Bears, and he had a chance to win the ballgame in the final seconds.
Reed dribbled the clock down tofour seconds before he drove to the hole for a shot in the lane. His shot hit the rim and Albert Abrahams' follow-up tip rimmed out, and time expired.

Williams Leads Bulldogs To Fifth-Straight MEAC Win Over Howard 77-64
ORANGEBURG, SC-Senior forward Arsenio Williams recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while junior's Carrio Bennett ,Darnell Porter and senior guard Brandon Smalls all chipped in 11 each as South Carolina State defeated Howard 77-64 in MEAC play Monday.
South Carolina State improves to 13-8 overall, and 7-3 in the MEAC, while Howard falls to 6-19 overall, 5-5 in the league.
The first half was close throughout the stretch with SC State leading my six, 20-14 off a Jason Flagler jumper at the 6:15 mark. A 3-pointer by Paul Kirkpatrick followed by a layup by Yannick Braimbridge gave Howard the lead 22-20 with 4:14 left in the first half.
Porter nailed a 3-pointer and scored a layup with 0:47 seconds left to pull the Bulldogs within a basket, 30-28. Bennett's layup with 0:05 seconds tied the game 30-30 and closed out the half.

Spartans Suffer Second Half Drought, Fall to DSU 54-52
NORFOLK, Va. - Delaware State guard Marcus Neal scored 12 of his 16 points after halftime, and host Norfolk State went more than 11 minutes with a point in the second half of a 54-52 loss at Echols Hall on Monday.
The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Spartans (5-17, 4-6 MEAC), who got a game-high 18 points from Michael Deloach.
Neither team led by more than five points in a tight first half. But Deloach scored 10 points in the stanza and NSU outscored the Hornets 7-2 from the foul line to take a slim 26-23 lead into the intermission.
DSU (12-9, 7-3 MEAC) tied the game at 26-all right out of the break on a traditional three-point play by Frisco Sandidge. NSU answered with a 3-pointer by Kyle O' Quinn to retake the lead at 29-26 with 19:04 left in the half.
But the Spartans went cold from the floor as DSU's defense clamped down. NSU went the next 11 minutes, 39 seconds of game time without scoring. The Hornets only managed 10 points in that span, five from Neal, but nonetheless took a 38-29 advantage. NSU missed eight straight shots and committed nine turnovers before Rob Hampton finally put an end to the drought with a runner with 7:25 remaining.

Haley And Hines Lead UMES To Victory Over NCAT, 62-52
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Tyler Hines registered his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds as Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team defeated North Carolina A&T, 62-52, Monday night at the Corbett Sports Center.
Redshirt sophomore Hillary Haley led the team with 20 points (7-for-15 from the field) while junior Tim Burns recorded 13 points and four assists and four steals.
The Aggies were led in scoring by Joshua with 15 points and Nic Simpson with 12. Thomas Coleman led the team with eight rebounds.
