Bears and Bulldogs set to compete in 2010 BracketBusters

ESPN announced that two MEAC men's basketball teams will participate in the 2010 BracketBusters.

The defending champion Morgan State Bears will travel to face the Murray State Racers in a televised game beginning at noon, Saturday, Feb. 20 on ESPNU.  The game will be played at the Regional Special Events Center in Murray, Ky.

The South Carolina State Bulldogs will face the Georgia State Panthers in a non-televised matchup, also on Feb. 20, at the Georgia State Sports Arena in Atlanta, Ga., beginning at 6 p.m.

Morgan State, the 2009 MEAC regular-season and tournament champions, has won seven consecutive games, including 11 straight conference games.  Their opponent, Murray State, has won 11 straight including a 77-45 win at UT Martin in their last outing. The Racers are 20-3 and in first place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a streak of  17 consecutive OVC regular season games.

The S.C. State Bulldogs, last year's regular season runners-up, are 11-8 and 5-3 in the MEAC, following a 77-62 triumph over Florida A&M in Tallahassee on Monday.

Georgia State, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), is 9-14 overall and 3-8 in the CAA.  The Panthers lost to Virginia Commonwealth, 78-62, in their last outing.

The BracketBusters concept, named because of the success of participating teams from these conferences in NCAA Tournament play through the years, provides programs with an opportunity to play top non-conference opponents roughly three weeks before Selection Sunday. Each conference selects its participating teams before the season, and the matchups for the event are determined by ESPN in conjunction with the conferences. BracketBusters is an example of ESPN college basketball franchise programming. Others include Rivalry Week Presented by Cisco, Feast Week Presented by Lowe's, Holiday Hoops Presented by Kay Jewelers, ESPNU Campus Connection Week, Judgment Week and Championship Week Presented by Dick's Sporting Goods.
