MEAC Announces Men?s Basketball Weekly Honors

 

Norfolk State's Michael Deloach was named the MEAC Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Delaware State's Marques Oliver earned Rookie of the Week accolades and Tyler Hines of Maryland Eastern Shore was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Deloach (G, 6-0, 175, Sr., Rocky Mount, N.C.) averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals as he led the Spartans to a pair of victories over Howard and Winston-Salem State and extend their win streak to three.  Deloach recorded 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal against the Bison.  He connected on 6-of-11 shots for 18 points with five assists and two steals in the win over Winston-Salem State.

Oliver (F, 6-7, 215, Fr., Durham, N.C.) combined for 24 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, one assist and one steal to aide the Hornets to a 1-1 mark last week.  He recorded a dozen points, shooting 5-of-7 from the field, with seven rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist in a win over Florida A&M.  He also recorded 12 points, with four rebounds and two blocks in a loss to Morgan State.

Hines (F/C, 6-6, 230, So., Sicklerville, N.J.) led the Hawks to a homecoming victory over Coppin State as he pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds in the 66-52 win.  He posted 18 rebounds, one block and one steal to aid the Hawks to a 2-0 MEAC mark last week.

Other Top Performers

Tavarus Alston (NCAT) averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.5 rebounds to lead the Aggies to two conferences victories last week.

Yannick Crowder (FAMU) scored 23 points, pulled down 15 boards, blocked two shots and stole one pass to help the Rattlers finish 1-1 last week in conference play.

Reggie Holmes (MSU) posted 22 points and eight rebounds in the Bears non-conference loss to Murray State.

James Porter (NCAT) recorded 12 points, 15 rebounds, four blocks and two steals to aide the Aggies to a 2-0 mark last week.

Kevin Thompson (MSU) collected his 17th double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Bears win over Delaware State.

Jay Threat (DSU) registered 14 points, including 3-of-3 from long range, along with six boards, five assists and one steal in a loss to Morgan State.


Adam Walker (How) recorded a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds with six assists, two blocks and one steal in a loss to Florida A&M.

Brandon Wheeless (NSU) scored 15 points, shooting 4-of-4 from the field, with two rebounds and two assists in a win over Winston-Salem State.

Kevin White (UMES) totaled 20 points, 12 assists, nine rebounds, and four steals in a pair of conference wins for the Hawks.
