North Carolina A&T Tops South Carolina State, 83-63
After losing their first conference game of the season to Hampton on Monday, the Aggies bounced back on Saturday with a convincing 83-63 win over S.C. State at Corbett Sports Center.
Senior Ta'Wuana Cook led five Aggies (18-8, 12-1 MEAC) in double figures with 25 points on six 3-pointers. Senior Lamona Smalley recorded her sixth double-double in seven games with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Jaleesa Sams added 14.
The Aggies led by as many as 12 in the first half, but saw the Bulldogs slice that lead to six by the half. Trinese Fox got the Bulldogs (8-17, 3-10 MEAC) to within 38-34 on a layup two minutes into the second half. Cook took over the game from there.
Hipps led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Alston added 15. The Aggies are back in action Monday night when they head over to the Greensboro Coliseum to face arch-rival Winston-Salem State at 6 p.m.

Morgan State Sinks DSU On Late 3-Pointer
Dover, Del. (Feb. 20, 2010) --- Erin Hawkins nailed a three-point shot with 4.2 seconds left to lift Morgan State to a 53-52 win over Delaware State in MEAC women's basketball this afternoon.
After a timeout with 2.9 seconds left, Delaware State's Cortney Crockett missed a hurried three-point attempt as time expired.
Morgan State won its third in a row to improve to 14-11 overall and 9-3 in the MEAC, while the Lady Hornets dropped their second straight to fall to 5-21 and 3-10.
Delaware State trailed by as many as six in the second half, but pulled ahead, 52-50, on two free throws by Selena Galloway with 14.9 seconds left in the game. On the ensuing possession, Morgan State nearly committed a turnover in the backcourt before getting the ball to Hawkins, who launched the game-winning shot from the right wing in front of her team's bench.
The Lady Hornets dominated much of the first half before Morgan State rallied to lead at the break.

Howard Rallies Past Florida A&M, 49-48
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 20) - Tamoria Holmes' three-pointer with 34 seconds left lifted Howard past Florida A&M, 49-48 in a MEAC game at the Al Lawson Center Saturday evening.
The win gave the visiting Lady Bison (13-12, 8-5 in MEAC) sole possession of fifth place in the conference, while completing home-and-home sweep of the season series with FAMU (15-9, 7-6), which had their three-game winning streak snapped.
A seven-minute scoring drought by FAMU in the second hand led to their 43-36 lead at the 11:01 mark turn into a 44-43 deficit on a Doyle tip in for Howard with 5:58 to go.
McKelton three-pointer with 2:26 to go put FAMU ahead for the last time at 48-46, but Tamoria Holmes three-pointer proved to be the game-winner for the Lady Bison.
FAMU was led by McKelton with 12 points, followed by Deidra Jones with 11 points and Bennett with a double-double performance, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Howard got a double-double from Doyle, who finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Zykia Brown added 11 points, while Portia Deterville pulled down 10 rebounds.

Payne, Spartan Women Complete Season Sweep of Winston-Salem State, Win 72-58
NORFOLK, Va. - Raychele Payne scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, to help the Norfolk State complete the season sweep of Winston-Salem State with a 72-58 win on Saturday afternoon at Echols Hall. The win snapped NSU's season-long seven-game losing streak.
Payne put NSU (4-18) on the board first with a 3-pointer with 19 minutes left in the first half. MaLisa Bumpus tied the game with a trey ball of her own at the 18:35 mark, but one of two free throws by Marian Brooks put the Spartans up 4-3.
Bumpus led WSSU with 17 points, while Vontisha Woods had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Rene Rector also scored in double figures with 11 points.
Genor Dalton had her first career double-double with 17 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. Whitney Long came off the bench to score 14 points, all in the second half. She was 5-of-6 from the floor and 2-3 from 3-point range.

McBride, Buckner Carry UMES To Homecoming Win Over Coppin, 76-56
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior April McBride scored a career-high 34 points on 13-for-21 shooting to lead Maryland Eastern Shore to a 76-56 win over Coppin State at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center Saturday.
The victory for UMES (9-14, 6-7) stopped a three-game losing streak and improved the Lady Hawks to 7-2 on homecoming since the 2001-02 season. The win also marked the first time since the 1996-97 season that the Lady Hawks swept the season series with Coppin State.
Coppin State (9-5, 4-8) lost its fourth in the last five games. It was the second straight game McBride set a career high in scoring. She also had 31 against in a loss against Florida A&M on Wednesday. McBride had seven rebounds, three assists and a steal against CSU.
Three Coppin State players finished in double figures as Leola Spotwood led the way with 12 points. Laketah Irving and Crystal Whittington had 10 points apiece.

Lady Wildcats Top Hampton 62-53
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Hampton (14-11, 9-4 MEAC) lost a tough game against the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman 62-53 at Moore Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Hampton struggled throughout the second half. A jumper by Quanneisha Perry at the 19:44 mark of the second half tied the game at 25 apiece. But the Lady Wildcats went on a 13-0 run over the next nine minutes (40-27), which concluded with a jumper by Euneshia Proctor. A 3-pointer by Melanie Warner at the 2:30 mark got the Lady Pirates within eight (49-41), but that was the closest they got. The Lady Wildcats were consistent with their free throws, shooting 72 percent from the charity stripe in the second half.
Perry had her 10th double-double of the season with a team-high 16 points and 12 rebounds. Choicetta McMillian contributed 12 points and four rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Sarah Bolden with 19 points and Demitria Frank had 17 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
