Turnovers Plague Lady Rams in 70-46 Loss at Coppin State
BALTIMORE- The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-23) turned up the defense, but not enough in a 70-46 loss at Coppin State (9-14), Monday evening. The Lady Rams had a strong night, forcing 19 turnovers by the Lady Eagles, but the team couldn't muster enough to stop a Coppin State team that scored 70 points and forced 34 WSSU turnovers in the game.
Junior guard MaLisa Bumpus led the way for the Lady Rams with 11 points. She was the only WSSU player to reach double-digit scoring in the loss. The tandem of freshman forward Shawanda Hanton and junior forward Vontisha Woods recorded eight rebounds each in the game.
Both teams would mount offensive runs down the stretch of the half. Though the Lady Rams outscored the Lady Eagles 20-17 in the final 10 minutes of the half, the effort was not enough as the squad ended the evening with the 70-46 loss.
