Thompson Leads Howard to Win Over N.C. A&T
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Calvin Thompson recorded a double-double and Curtis White and Dadrian Collins added 12 and 10, respectively as Howard University defeated North Carolina A&T, 59-49 in a MEAC men's game at Burr Gymnasium.
The Bison (7-19 overall, 6-5 in the MEAC) set the tone early by bolting out to a 12-4 lead in the first nine minutes en route to a 32-21 lead at the half.
It was Thompson (six points), Collins (six points) and reserve guard Kyle Riley (seven points), who combined for 19 of the points. A 6-2 sophomore guard, Thompson also made his presence felt on the boards as he led all players with seven.
Howard threatened to blow the game open in the second half when it opened the half with a 14-2 run that gave them a 46-23 lead at the 13:22 mark. White, Collins and Thompson combined for four three pointers during the run.
After missing seven of nine from beyond the stripe in the first 20 minutes, the Bison canned six of 15 on the second half.

Hornets Complete Season Sweep of Wildcats, 67-50
DOVER, Del. - Marcus Neal led all players with 17 points, while Frisco Sandidge added 14 to lead Delaware State to a 67-50 win over Bethune-Cookman, and complete a season sweep of the Wildcats in Memorial Hall Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets won their second straight to improve to 13-9 overall and 8-3 in the MEAC. DSU was tied for second place in the MEAC entering the contest. Bethune-Cookman dropped its second straight to fall to 14-11 and 6-5.
Threatt had a career-high 10 assists and just two turnovers in the contest. He was tied for the MEAC lead in assist-to-turnover ratio entering the game.
Kevin Dukes was high scorer for the Wildcats with 12 points, while teammate Alexander Starling had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Bethune-Cookman led 25-22 before Delaware State took control of the game. The Hornets outscored the Wildcats 13-2 in the last 5:27 of the first half to hold a 35-27 lead at the break.
Delaware State was 12-for-19 from the field (63.2%), including 5-of-7 from three-point territory in the first half.

Rattler Down Hawks, 80-71
Princess Anne, Md. - Florida A&M University shot over 60 percent from the floor at times on Saturday, and proved to be too strong for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team, as the Hawks fell, 80-71.
Junior Tim Burns scored a team high 17 points for the Hawks in defeat. With the loss UMES (7-18, 5-6) falls to below .500 in conference play.
The Rattlers shot over 56 percent from the floor in the first half (18-32 FG), and took a 44-39 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Hawks also shot well over the first 20 minutes (16-28 FG, 57 percent), and outrebounded FAMU, 18-10, before the break.
The crowd at the Hytche Center was treated to an up-tempo, back-and-forth first half that saw eight ties and 12 lead changes. A Burns lay-up capped off a 9-0 run for the Hawks that gave them a brief lead, 25-21, with 7:30 remaining.

SC State Has Five-Game Win Streak Snapped at Coppin
BALTIMORE, Md. - South Carolina State had its five-game win streak snapped Saturday at Coppin State, falling 79-61 to the Eagles at the Coppin Center.
The Bulldogs shot only 37 percent from the field, including a chilly 30 percent in the second half, in dipping to 13-9 overall and 7-4 in the MEAC.
Coppin, meanwhile, connected on 58 percent of its shots in the first half in building a 42-32 advantage at the break and finished the game with 51 percent accuracy.
Darnell Porter had 17 points - including an 11-11 effort at the line - and 13 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Brandon Smalls came off the bench for 12 points and seven boards and SC State leading scorer Jason Flagler and reserve Arsenio Williams added 10 points each.
Coppin State, which won only its second league game, improved to 7-16 and 2-9 in the MEAC. The Eagles were led by Kareem Brown with 14 points. Vince Goldberry added 13 points and Quinston Reggins 11 in the win, which avenged an earlier 87-65 loss to the Bulldogs Jan. 18 in Orangeburg.
Carter's team never led in the contest as Coppin scored the game's first six points and built a 19-10 edge with 12:07 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Lenny Young.

Reggie Holmes Leads Morgan State Bears to 79-65 win over Winston-Salem State
BALTIMORE, Md. - Reggie Holmes scored 26 points in Morgan State's 79-65 win over Winston-Salem State on Saturday that extended the Bears' winning streak to 11 games.
Morgan State jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but the Rams woke up and trimmed the lead to 13-10 with 12:23 left in the first half.
DeWayne Jackson ignited a 10-3 spurt by scoring seven points during a four minute stretch to help give the Bears a 23-13 lead. The Bears went into the intermission with a 42-24 lead.
Holmes, who entered the game ranked among the nation's leading scorers (22.2 ppg), dropped in 15 points in the first half, and surpassed Yarharborough Roberts as the No. 3 all-time leading scorer in Morgan State history. The senior finished the contest with 26 points (13-15 FT) and has amassed 1,837 points for his career.
The Bears had a lapse during the opening moments of the second half as Winston-Salem State cut the lead to 42-28 following a layup by Lamar Monger with 18 minutes left in the game. Morgan State responded with a 19-6 run and a layup by Joe Davis gave the Bears its largest lead of the game at 61-34 with just over 12 minutes left to play. Morgan State cruised from that point forward.

Deloach, Spartans Hold off Pirates, 70-66
HAMPTON, Va. - Michael Deloach scored 22 points and Aleek Pauline scored all 10 of his in the second half to help Norfolk State down host Hampton 70-66 on Saturday night at the HU Convocation Center.
With the win, the Spartans (6-17, 5-6 MEAC) have won three of their last four overall and have taken four straight in the series from the Pirates (8-16, 4-7). NSU has now won the season series from Hampton in consecutive seasons for the first time since the Spartans joined Division I in 1997-98.
NSU led by as many as nine points in the second half, 67-58, after a breakaway dunk by Rob Hampton with 3:04 remaining. But the Pirates scored the game's next eight points, capped by two Brandon Tunnell free throws, to pull within 67-66 with 54 seconds left.
Deloach drew a foul at the other end and went 2-of-2 from the free-throw line with 25 seconds left to extend the lead to three, 69-66. The Pirates had two chances to tie at the other end. Vincent Simpson, who scored a team-high 18 points, missed a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left, but Hampton retained possession after NSU knocked the ball out of bounds. But Rob Hampton intercepted the ensuing inbounds pass and hit one free throw with 5.8 seconds remaining to ice it.
