Lady Hornets Top Wildcats For Second Straight Win

Dover, Del. --- Cortney Crockett scored a game-high 16 points, and Brittany Washington had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Delaware State to a 57-53 win over Bethune-Cookman in Memorial Hall this afternoon.

The Lady Hornets won their second straight to improve to 5-19 overall and 3-8 in the MEAC. The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Wildcats, who fell 12-11 and 7-4.


Crockett was 8-for-12 from the field. She also tied for game-high honors with five steals.  Washington recorded her fifth "double-double" of the season.


Euneshia Proctor was high scorer for Bethune-Cookman with 15 points. Sarah Bolden led the Wildcats with a game-high 13 rebounds.

NSU  Drops 6th Straight Game, Falls 68-47 at Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. -Norfolk State dropped its sixth consecutive game on Saturday with a 68-47 loss to Hampton at the HU Convocation Center. With the win, Hampton improved to 13-10 overall and 8-3 in the MEAC, while NSU fell to 3-17, 0-11.

Hampton outscored NSU 19-15 the rest of the half to go into halftime up 41-27.

McMillian and Bernadette Fortune each had team-highs of 14 points for Hampton. Jericka Jenkins had 11 points and Quanniesha Perry had a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Raychele Payne led NSU with a game-high 16 points and added six rebounds. Tyisha Bridges had nine points and six rebounds, while Marian Brooks tallied five points and six boards.

 North Carolina A&T Uses A Balanced Attack To Top Howard 80-57

Washington, DC-February 13-North Carolina A&T combined its balanced attack, led by senior guard Ta'Wauna Cook's game-high 22 points, and its overall experience into an 80-57 win over Howard in a MEAC game at Burr Gymnasium.

The Lady Aggies (17-7 overall, 11-0 MEAC) won their 11th straight by using a 19-2 run over the last five minutes of the half to open a 42-25 lead the half.  For the half, North Carolina A&T shot 57 percent (17 of 30) while Howard missed 23 of their 30 attempts, many coming from close range.

Howard (11-12 overall, 6-5 MEAC) was able to get 14 first half points from junior guard Zykia Brown but no one else scored more than three points.  Meanwhile, the Lady Aggies used their bench liberally and did not seem to lose anything as they got 20 points from their reserves.   Senior forward Lamona Smalley contributed 16 on 8 of 9 shooting and five other players contributed seven or more points.

South Carolina State Extends Win Streak To Two With Victory Over Coppin State

South Carolina State team won its second straight contest as they defeated Coppin State, 69-53, in a MEAC match-up. The win over the Lady Eagles marks the first time since the 2002-03 season that the South Carolina State has defeated Coppin State.

Lady Bulldogs maintained its intensity to begin the second half increasing their lead to 21 points (53-32) midway through the half. Coppin State put together a mini 6-0 run over the next minute and a half to pull within 15, 53-38, but could not get any closer eventually falling by 16, 69-53.

Junior Whitney Wiley led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 22. Sophilia Hipps contributed 17 points and seven rebounds in victory. Freshman Tiara Knotts also pulled in seven rebounds in the winning effort.

Coppin State was led in scoring and rebounding by Jeanine Manley and Crystal Whittington with 19 and 13 respectively. Lakeytah Irving was the only other Lady Eagle to score in double-figures with 10.

Bumpus' 13 Points Not Enough As WSSU Takes Road Loss

BALTIMORE- Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-22) took a 73-44 road loss to Morgan State (12-11). Though the Lady Rams gave a great effort, the team couldn't stop a scorching hot Morgan State team that shot 53% from the field and forced 16 WSSU turnovers in the loss.

For the second time this season, junior guard MaLisa Bumpus led the way for the Lady Rams against the Lady Bears with 13 points. Fellow junior guard Rene Rector added four assists and a career-high eight rebounds in the tough loss.

It was in the second half that the Lady Rams would fade as the team allowed 41 second half points to the Lady Bears. Things were tough early for the Lady Rams as Morgan State opened the half with 14-2 run that left the Lady Rams trailing, 50-26. After falling behind by as many as 34 points, the Lady Rams fought for pride for the remainder of the game and finished the game with 73-44 final score.
