Adams, Morgan State Run Past Spartans in 70-55 Victory

NORFOLK, Va. - Corin Adams had a team-high 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field to help the Morgan State to a 70-55 victory over Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon at Echols Hall. Adams added seven rebounds, three steals and three assists in a game-high 35 minutes.

Morgan State (10-9, 6-1 MEAC) came out hot to start the game and jumped out to a quick 23-8 lead after a 3-pointer by Brittany Noel with 10:07 left in the first half. But NSU (3-13, 0-7 MEAC) slowly cut down the deficit, coming within three, 31-28, after a layup by Genor Dalton with 1:33 left in the half. The Lady Bears went into halftime up six, 35-29.

MSU dominated the second half and led by as many as 21, 62-41, after a free throw by Aaries Reed with 5:29 left in the game. A bucket by Dalton with 33 seconds left in the game got the Spartans within 15, 70-55, and ended the scoring for the game.

MSU shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field for the game, including 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from beyond the arc. The Lady Bears connected on 13 of their 24 free-throw attempts, had 38 rebounds and 12 steals and forced 22 Spartan turnovers.

Lady Aggies Shoot Way Past Coppin State in Second Half

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Ta'Wuana Cook scored 12 of her 17 points in the second half and North Carolina A&T shot 57.1 percent from the floor after the intermission as the Lady Aggies defeated Coppin State 79-56 on Sunday in the Corbett Center.

North Carolina A&T (13-7, 7-0 MEAC) remained undefeated in conference play on the strength of its hot shooting second half. The Aggies held a 33-31 lead at the intermission, but outscored Coppin State 46-25 in the second half.

Cook and Amber Calvin led the  Lady Aggies with 17 points, while Tyronnica Alford had 12 and Tierra Thomas scored 11 points.

Coppin State (7-11, 3-4 MEAC) was led by Jeanine Manley who scored 12 points, while Shawntae Payne added 10 points. Crystal Whittington added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

The Lady Aggies also took advantage of 20 Coppin State turnovers by scoring 22 points off of those turnovers.
