Hawks Post 9-1 Mark At MEAC North Meet
COLUMBIA, Md.-Maria Rodriguez tallied a pinfall of 1,133 over five games to average a 226.6 and lead UMES to a 9-1 mark in this past weekend's MEAC Northern Division match.
The Hawks got solid outings from Rodriguez, T'Nia Falbo, Martha Perez and Megan Buja as they posted nine wins and a loss on the weekend to run their conference record to 19-1 and to 41-7 overall.
The event started off rocky for UMES as they fell to Hampton 840-831 with no one posting a 200 game. However, they got it together the rest of the way, topping No. 16 Morgan State, Coppin State, Howard and No. 7 Delaware State. They posted a team high 1161 in the DSU win and got 200 games from all five Hawks.
In all, they tallied 12 200 games with Rodriguez posting four, including a 278 in the DSU win and a 256 against Coppin State. Perez tallied a 255 vs. DSU while Kristina Frahm had a pair, including a 235 over Morgan State. Falbo had three 200 games, posting a 245 against Howard while Buja also had a pair with a 238 against Coppin State.
UMES rolled through the Baker games, posting wins over Morgan State, Hampton, Howard, Delaware State and Coppin State. Their high game was an 824 against DSU and they averaged over a 787 in the five matches.

Lady Eagles Bowling Places Third At MEAC Southern Divisional
CHESAPEAKE, Va.-Sophomore Laverne Jones and senior Toria Silver led North Carolina Central University to a third place team finish at the MEAC Southern Divisional bowling competition on Dec. 4-5 in Chesapeake, Va.
Jones ranked sixth among the individual bowlers with a five-game average of 178.2, including a high game of 192. Silver finished right behind her teammate in seventh place with an average of 175.8 and a high game of 210.
As a team, NCCU completed the weekend with a 5-5 overall record to place behind Florida A&M (8-2) and event winner Norfolk State (8-2).
During five-person team games, NCCU posted a 3-2 record. The Lady Eagles beat South Carolina State (837-733), Bethune-Cookman (816-798) and North Carolina A&T (847-712), while falling to Norfolk State (811-877) and Florida A&M (720-781).
During Baker games, NCCU surprised the eventual event winner Norfolk State by handing the Spartans one of only two setbacks on the weekend. The Lady Eagles used a tournament-high Baker game of 208 followed by a score of 199 to knock off NSU 746-695. NCCU also defeated South Carolina State 595-548.
Four Baker games were not enough to decide the outcome against Bethune-Cookman. After each squad posted results of 622, BCU edged the Lady Eagles in a tiebreaker. NCCU also lost Baker games to North Carolina A&T (650-696) and Florida A&M (594-669).
The other top bowlers for NCCU were senior LaTia Blacknell with a 162.2 average and a high game of 194, junior Khrystal Richardson with a 159.8 average and a high game of 206, and freshman Kristyne Garrett with a 143.0 average and a high game of 174.

Sutherland Leads All Bowlers At MEAC Southern
CHESAPEAKE, Va. -Bethune-Cookman's Jazmin Sutherland took individual honors at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division's second weekend of competition.
The senior from Brooklyn averaged 189.6 in her five games to lead all competitors and also posted the highest individual game with a 221. She finished with a 213.
Junior Melanie Mitchell averaged 183.5 in her four appearances, including a 201 in her third game. Ypretycia Crumity showed improvement as she finished with a 159 average that included a high game of 184.

Archer Leads Eagles at MEAC Northern Division Bowling Tournament
COLUMBIA, Md. -- Bria Archer rolled her second 200 game in the past two tournaments leading Coppin State in the MEAC Northern Division Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
Archer led the Eagles with an average of 155.0, which included a 200 game against Delaware State.
Stacey Burgos rolled a 706 series and averaged 141.2 per game. Her high game of 165 came against Howard.
Heather Josker knocked down 173 pins against Howard and averaged 131.6 per game.
Carmen Frazier posted her series high of the season by knocking down 572 pins and averaging 114.4 per game.
Amber Miller rounded out the Coppin State team by averaging 110.8 in the five games.

Hampton Bowling Has Strong Showing At MEAC Meet
COLUMBIA, Md. -Hampton had a strong showing on Saturday and Sunday, going a combined 7-3 in the Mid- MEAC North Meet hosted by Morgan State.
The Lady Pirates (26-27, 11-9 MEAC) opened play on Saturday with a 4-1 mark in 5-person team match play, before going 3-2 on Sunday in Baker total pinfall action.
Hampton opened Saturday's action with an 840-831 win over Maryland Eastern Shore, before falling 846-1,005 to Delaware State. The Lady Pirates then won three straight matches, beating Howard 892-797, Morgan State 958-875 and Coppin State 880-658.
Sophomore Rebecca Glazier had 1,022 total pins on Saturday, averaging 204.4 pins per match. She bowled a team-best 245 against Morgan State, after rolling a 222 against Howard. Glazier also bowled a 190 against both UMES and Delaware State.
Pamela Kettler bowled an 832 over five matches on Saturday, including a 180 against Howard. She averaged 166.4 pins per match.
Senior Jazzminn Richey-Obey had 715 total pins over four matches, bowling a 210 against Morgan State. She averaged 178.8 pins per match.
Hampton opened Sunday's Baker play with a 691-675 win over Delaware State, before losing 683-779 to UMES and 651-731 to Morgan State. The Lady Pirates then beat Coppin State 674-558 and Howard 676-581.
