Nick Chasten's second straight double-double propels NCCU to third straight win
Game Stats
ORANGEBURG, S.C.- Junior forward Nick Chasten recorded his second straight double-double including a career-high 24 points as the North Carolina Central Eagles took down the South Carolina State Bulldogs with a 74-71 overtime win at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center Saturday afternoon. The win was the first road victory for the Eagles in nearly two years.
Chasten had to leave the ballgame with 7:36 to go when he collided with a Bulldog player forcing him to play with the injured lip that later received stitches playing the rest of the contest with gauze in his mouth.
The win for NCCU marked not only head coach LeVelle Moton's first road victory, but the Eagles first away from the Bull City since 65-61 decision over Coppin State on Jan. 30, 2008.
The maroon and gray stormed out in front leading for 18 minutes and 34 seconds of the first stanza. In fact, the Eagles were scorching from the field missing just nine shots (17-of-26, 65.4%), including 7-of-11 from three point range, but only led 42-32 at the half following a late rally by the Bulldogs.
The script flipped in the second half as the Bulldogs, who were picked in the preseason to finish second in the MEAC, used a 19-to-7 run through the first eight minutes to grab their first lead since the opening tip at 51-49 with 11:52 to go.
With the score tied at 54 and 9:47 remaining, a C.J. Wilkerson layup and a Chasten three pointer put the Eagles up by 5 at 59-54 with 8:31 remaining.
NCCU stayed ahead for most of the late stages of the second half until turnovers saw the Bulldogs guard, Carrio Bennett, tie the contest up at 65 with 11 seconds left.

Aggies Outlast Spartans in OT despite O'Quinn's Monster Game
Game Stats
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Marc Hill scored a game-high 29 points, including six in overtime, to lead host North Carolina A&T to an 89-81 overtime win over Norfolk State in the MEAC opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the Corbett Sports Center.
The loss for the Spartans (1-6, 0-1 MEAC), their fifth in a row, came despite a third straight double-double by junior Kyle O'Quinn. He tallied season highs of 27 points and 18 rebounds and also blocked three shots.
This marks the fourth straight season in which NSU and the Aggies have opened MEAC play against each other in early December. A&T has won the last three of those meetings, and Saturday marked the second straight year in which the teams played an OT game to kick off conference play.
There were nine ties and 11 lead-changes in the game, and neither team led by more than nine points. Despite shooting just 36 percent in the first half, NSU led 30-29 at the break thanks in part to scoring 13 points off 10 Aggie (5-3, 1-0) turnovers.
But Hill hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Aggies a 43-36 lead early in the second half of the ebb-and-flow affair. The Spartans would later surge into the lead thanks in part to some key shots by Brandon, who hit all four of his field goals in the half. His 3-pointer gave NSU a six-point edge at 58-52, and moments later, Rob Hampton hit a trey of his own with eight minutes left to give NSU its largest lead, 61-54.
But A&T would stage another rally and the final minutes of regulation saw both teams' trade clutch baskets. Hill's 3-pointer gave A&T a 69-67 lead with 3:30 left in regulation, but Wheeless tied it at the other end. Hill hit another field goal to give the Aggies a 71-69 edge with 1:34 left, but some 20 seconds later, O'Quinn hit a 3-pointer to put the Spartans ahead, 72-71.

New Guys Come Up Big In Wildcats' MEAC Opener
Game Stats
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - CJ Reed got some help from some Bethune-Cookman newcomers as the Wildcats began MEAC play with a 62-55 victory over Florida A&M Saturday evening in the Lawson Center.
Reed did the franchise thing and led all scorers with 19, but two Wildcats making their MEAC debut delivered as B-CU (4-4,1-0) won its second straight and first away from the friendly confines of historic Moore Gymnasium.
Holloman, the junior college transfer, scored 13 of his 14 in the first half while Trapp, a freshman, delivered 10 huge second half points that helped B-CU pull away from a 42-41 game.
Ever since the Florida Christian victory, Reed emphasized to his teammates how intense this rivalry game would be. They listened.
"They were both huge," CJ Reed said of his teammates. "I told G (Holloman) it was going to be a physical game and he showed up big. Those were big shots Trapp made."
B-CU held FAMU (3-5, 0-1) scoreless for five minutes to take a 51-41 lead, then after a Rattler free throw, Trapp nailed a three-pointer that made it 54-42 with 2:19 to play.
