Lady Pirates Run Past Howard For First Meac Win
HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton scored 41 points in the second half en route to a 68-52 win over Howard at the HU Convocation Center on Saturday.
Saadia Doyle hit a 3-pointer with 13:47 left in the second half to pull Howard within three, as the Lady Pirates had a 38-35 lead. But Hampton (3-4, 1-0 MEAC) outscored the Bison 30-17 the rest of the way, pulling out to a 13-point lead when junior guard Jericka Jenkins nailed a 3-pointer with 8:58 to play to give Hampton a 48-35 lead.
Senior guard Laura Lewis sank a layup with 3:01 to play to put Hampton up 57-43. The Lady Pirates then made nine of 13 free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
Jenkins led the Lady Pirates with 17 points, all in the second half, on 5-for-11 shooting and a 3-for-8 effort from behind the arc. Senior forward Quanneisha Perry and junior guard Choicetta McMillian also scored in double figures; Perry poured in 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting, while McMillian scored 13 behind the stretch of three 3-pointers.
Lewis pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Pirates. Jenkins added a team-high six assists.
Hampton shot 47.8 percent (20-for-42) from the floor, while also going 9-for-22 (40.9 percent) from 3-point range. The Lady Pirates out-rebounded Howard (3-7, 0-1 MEAC) 36-29. The Bison shot 36.4 percent (20-for-55) from the floor, making just 57.1 percent (8-for-14) of their free throws.
Doyle led the Bison with 15 points and 10 rebounds, going 6-for-15 from the floor.

SC STATE WOMEN ROLL PASS NC CENTRAL
ORANGEBURG, SC - Senior guard Whitney Wiley scored 22 points and had five steals to lead South Carolina State to a 66-32 win over visiting North Carolina Central Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Wiley was the only Lady Bulldog in double figures in the victory, which snapped a two-game losing streak for Coach Doug Robertson's team. Freshman Cherisha Floyd of Orangeburg followed Wiley in the scoring for SC State with nine points, all in the opening half, and five rebounds. Center Paris Alston and forward Tracey Flowers added seven points each.
Reserve Mary Baker came off the bench for a team-high seven rebounds and also added five points as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-3 on the season.
NC Central was paced by senior Jori Nwachukwu with 12 points and seven rebounds. Shanise Blanks added nine points and Chasidy Williams six in the loss, while backup J'Mia Pollock had a game-high rebounds but not points for the Lady Eagles who fell to 1-6 on the season.

Lady Bears Nearly Blow 25-Point Cushion, Hold Off Rival Coppin State, 63-56
BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 5, 2010)-Morgan State senior Brittany Dodson scored 12 of her team-high 15 points in the second half on 4-of-6 shooting, including 3-for-5 from three-point range and fellow senior Brittany Noel scored 13 points to help the host Lady Bears hold off crosstown rival Coppin State, 63-56 in the MEAC opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.
Morgan State junior Mahala Thomas came off the bench to score 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, as the Lady Bears recorded their third straight win over Coppin State for the first time since a four-game winning streak from Feb. 25, 1999 to Feb. 26, 2000. Morgan State now trails the all-time series, 32-26.
Coppin State (2-4, 0-1 MEAC) was led by Larissa Carter, who scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the second half, finishing 5-of-9 from the field, including 10-of-14 from the free throw line. Carter also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds to help the Eagles to a 38-35 rebounding advantage over Morgan State. Jeanine Manley tallied 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Saturday's contest was truly a tale of two periods. The host Lady Bears limited the guests to just 13 points in the first half, while holding a 22-point lead at the intermission. The second half was all Coppin State, as they Eagles scored 43 points to outscore Morgan State by 15 in the period and used a 35-15 spurt to cut a 25-point deficit down to five points (55-50) with 2:29 left to play, before running out of gas.
Before things began to turn in the Eagles favor, Morgan State (5-3, 1-0 MEAC) probably played its best half of basketball under the guidance of head coach Donald Beasley. Morgan State, which shot 56 percent (14-of-25) in the opening half, including 6-of-10 (60 percent) from three-point range, scored the game's first 11 points.

Big 2nd Half Propels A&T to 74-58 Win Over NSU
GREENSBORO, N.C. - A big second half propelled North Carolina A&T past the Norfolk State, 74-58, Saturday afternoon at the Corbett Sports Center after the Spartans had taken a 35-33 lead at the half.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Spartans (4-2, 0-1 MEAC) were unable to stop the Aggies on offense in the second half. A&T (2-4, 1-0) shot 50 percent in the second stanza and had 19 offensive boards for the game, scoring 26 second-chance points overall.
Freshman Rae Corbo tallied 17 points, while junior Sarah Daily added 13 for the Spartans. Sophomore Recca Trice had a game-high five assists, while junior Marian Brooks had eight points and a team-high five rebounds.
The Aggies got huge games from Jaleesa Sams and Crystal Murdaugh, who tallied 26 and 17 points, respectively. Both players had just eight points at the half but shot lights out in the second half.
Murdaugh also tallied a game-high 11 rebounds, as the Aggies posted a 42-33 advantage for the game. They also hit 45.8 percent from the floor overall, while the Spartans were limited to a 36.2 percent shooting clip.

Dover, Del. (Dec. 4, 2010) --- Delaware State established school record lows for total points and points in a half during an 87-17 loss to Syracuse at the Carrier Dome this afternoon.
The Lady Hornets dropped their third straight to fall to 1-5, while the Orange improved to 6-0.
Delaware State's previous low point total for a game was 20 vs. Syracuse last season. DSU also scored a school record low three points in the second half.

even- of- 50 shots in the game (14%), including one- for- 28 in the second half (3.6%).
Syracuse won the rebound battle, 53-30, while the Lady Hornets were also plagued by 32 turnovers.
Elashier Hall and Carmen Tyson-Thomas led Syracuse with 15 points each. Shakeya Leary added 10 points for the Orange.
Brittany Washington was high scorer for Delaware State with six points.
Delaware State returns to action next Saturday (Dec. 11) at home against Long Island. Game time is 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
