Lady Pirates Upend Troy In GSU Invitational
ATLANTA, Ga. - Hampton won its first game of the Georgia State Invitational on Wednesday, beating Troy 61-43 at the GSU Sports Arena.
The Lady Pirates (7-4) have won six straight games.
Senior forward Quanneisha Perry led four Lady Pirates in double figures with 15 points to go along with a team-high 17 rebounds, while junior guard Jericka Jenkins scored 13 points and dished out a team-high six assists.
Junior forward Melanie Warner poured in 11 points and junior guard Choicetta McMillian recorded a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Perry is 25 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
DeAngela Sword led Troy (2-11) with 16 points.
The Lady Pirates never trailed, opening the game on a 7-2 run. Ieva Nagy hit a jumper with 5:42 left in the first half to cut Hampton's lead to 16-12, but the Lady Pirates closed the half with a 14-4 run to take a 30-16 lead into the intermission.
Troy never got closer than within 11 in the second half, and the Lady Pirates led by as many as 18, going up 56-38 with 3:29 to play after a pair of Warner free throws.
The Lady Pirates shot 30.3 percent (23-for-76) from the floor, also going 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line. Hampton trounced Troy on the boards with a 53-38 rebounding edge, and the Lady Pirates forced Troy into 22 turnovers, converting them into 27 points.

Hall Leads Hartford Past Coppin State 49-48
BALTIMORE -- Mary Silvia scored 17 points and Alex Hall converted a key fastbreak layup with 1:02 remaining to lead Hartford to a 49-48 victory over Coppin State on Wednesday in the Physical Education Complex.
Jaleah Holsey knocked down a three-point basket that brought the Eagles to within 47-46 with 2:42 to play, but failed on an opportunity to take the lead. After Crystal Whittington was called for an offensive foul, Jackie Smith found Hall all alone for a fastbreak layup which upped the lead to 49-46.
Leola Spotwood converted a layup with 28 seconds to play bringing CSU to within 49-48 and then the Eagles gained possession on an offensive foul call on Daphne Elliot with 13 seconds to play.
But Shawntae Payne missed a desperation three-point attempt at the buzzer after the Eagles fumbled the inbounds pass.
Coppin State (2-8) was led by Holsey who scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Whittington had nine points and Jeanine Manley had eight points and seven rebounds.
Hartford (3-10) overcame a 29-27 halftime deficit by limiting Coppin State to 26.7 percent shooting from the floor in the second half.

Lady Aggies Defeat Holy Cross
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior Jaleesa Sams moved closer to the 1,000-point plateau in her career by scoring 21 points to lead the North Carolina A&T to a 75-62 win over Holy Cross Wednesday during the consolation game of the Cavaliers Classic played at John Paul Jones Arena on the campus of the University of Virginia.
Sams added nine rebounds to her total, and needs just 23 points to become the 12th player in school history to score 1,000 points in a career. Freshman Mikala Scott added 14 points for the Aggies, while Jaqualya Berry posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Amy Lepley led the Crusaders (4-9) with 14 points. The Aggies improved to 4-6 on the season.

Spartans Drop Non-Conference Tilt at George Mason
FAIRFAX, Va. - Following an 11-day break for the holiday, the Norfolk State fell to George Mason, 72-45, Wednesday evening at the Patriot Center.
Junior Whitney Long again had another solid game, posting a team-high 16 points to lead the Spartan scoring effort for the third game in the row. The loss dropped NSU to 5-4 on the year, while George Mason improved to 6-5.
Amber Easter tallied 19 points, while Taleia Moton and Brittany Poindexter posted 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Patriots.
Junior Sarah Daily had nine points with six rebounds, but NSU shot just 29.4 percent for the game on 15-of-51 shooting. The Patriots hit 45.6 percent on 26-of-57 shooting and had a 16-of-27 effort from the free throw line.
NSU struggled at the charity stripe, hitting just 11-of-21 (52.4 percent). Sophomores Marian Brooks and Batavia Owens each grabbed six rebounds, while Brooks also added seven points. George Mason also had a 42-36 edge in rebounds and a 32-12 advantage in points in the paint.

Lady Hornets Fall To Tigers
Towson, Md. (Dec. 29, 2010) --- Delaware State hit just one field goal in the last 8:46 of the game en route to a 55-41 loss to Towson at the Towson Center this evening.
The Tigers won for the second time in three games to improve to 6-5 on the season, while the Lady Hornets fell to 2-8.
Towson's Sheree Ledbetter and Dovile Miliauskaite led all players with 18 points each, while Kianna Conner was the only Delaware State player in double figures with 13.
The Lady Hornets were plagued by 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Tasia Bristow led the Lady Hornets with eight first half points, while Ledbetter had nine for the Tigers at intermission.
Delaware State was 17-of-48 from the field (35.4%), while Towson hit 15 of its 46 shots (32.6%).
Free throws were key in the contest.
Towson was 25 for 38 at the line, while the Lady Hornets hit four of their seven shots at the stripe.

NCCU's Early First-Half Lead Not Enough To Hold Bulldogs Back
DURHAM, N.C. - Two North Carolina Central Lady Eagles (2-10) scored in double-figures in Wednesday night's 67-56 loss to the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville (7-4) in McDougald-McLendon Gym on Dec. 29.
Senior Jori Nwachukwu and sophomore Chasidy Williams' combined 31 points were not enough to subdue the persistent Bulldogs. Nwachukwu obtained her fourth double-double honor this season. The leading scorer earned 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Williams scored 12 points and seized seven boards.
NCCU junior Blaire Houston rounded out the scoring leaders with seven points. Freshman Tenika Neely came off the bench to command the offense, as she distributed three assists.
Asheville sharp-shooter Lindsey Thompson earned a double-double in the win, as she obtained a season-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Thompson led the Bulldogs with 16 points in the first-half alone, hitting four consecutive three-pointers. Kendall Shepard and Lindsey Montgomery amassed 15 points apiece, and Kelli Riles rounded out the double-figure scoring with 12 points.

Iowa State Rout Lady Rattlers, 86-60
AMES, Iowa (Dec. 29) - Florida A&M had a pair of Lady Rattlers to score 20-plus points as Iowa State defeated the Lady Rattlers, 85-60 in their first game of the Cyclone Challenge, Wednesday evening at Hilton Coliseum.
FAMU (4-6) was paced by Tameka McKelton as she scored a team high 22 points followed by Antonia Bennett with 20. Bennett pulled down a game high nine rebounds, followed by Shekeira Copeland with eight boards.
ISU (9-2) was led by Kelsey Bolte as she scored a game high 28 points, followed by Hallie Chirstofferson with 10 points. Chelsea Poppens pulled down a game high 10 rebounds for the Cyclones, while Lauren Mansfield dished out a game high 10 assists.

Morgan State Defeats George Washington 70-66 in OT
BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 29, 2010)-Brittany Dodson scored 21 of her game- and career-high 26 points in the second half and in overtime to lead Morgan State to a 70-66 overtime victory over George Washington on Wednesday night in the second game of the Miami Holiday Classic.
With the victory, Morgan State, which hasn't played George Washington since the 1997-98 season, improved to 3-2 all-time against the Colonials and recorded its second win in three meetings against Atlantic-10 opponents this season.
Dodson, who shot 8-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, also knocked down 7-of-8 from the charity line, including two free throws with 5.6 seconds remaining in the extra period to secure the victory.
Theresa Davis came off the bench and scored 15 points and added a team-high eight rebounds, while Erin Hawkins and reserve Brittany Noel each finished with 10 points.
George Washington (5-8), which has lost three straight, was led by Tara Booker's 22 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Sara Mostafa finished with 15 points and Brooke Wilson added a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
