Elum's Scoring Tear Continues In B-CU's 79-56 Win Over FlaglerDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Jasmine Elum led the Lady Wildcats for the fourth consecutive night, pumping in 17 first-half points as Bethune-Cookman returned to action after a six-day holiday layoff and dispatched Flager 79-56 in Moore Gymnasium.
Elum's rise has become even more essential for B-CU (5-5) after losing leading scorer Demetria Frank to injury. All Elum's done so far is hit a game-winning buzzer beater at Louisiana-Lafayette and pump in 23 and 17 in two victories.
Sarah Bolden added 13 points in her first double-figure game since Florida A&M, and Amanda Hairston 12 as B-CU jumped out to leads of 10-0 and 29-10 in the first half.
Elum, who registered 10 three-pointers in the last three-games, only managed one from behind the arc during the opening half.
B-CU's defense helped produce 27 points.
Hairston had only scored eight points in the last four games before finishing with her season-high.
The other two B-CU Jasmines -Daniels and Bugg - scored nine and eight, respectively.

Canisius Defeats UMES, 58-48
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Chelsea Sanders scored a game-high 19 points but Canisius defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 58-48, at the Koessler Athletic Center Tuesday.
Sanders went 5-for-14 from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line, collecting four rebounds for UMES (2-7), which fell for the fourth consecutive game. Canisus (4-7), which received 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting from Jen Morabito, won for just the second time in seven games.
The Griffs used a 44.4 percent (12-for-27) shooting second half to best UMES, which was held to just 27.1 percent on 13-for48 from the floor for the game.
Morabito was 4-for-7 from 3-point range on the night and extended the Canisius advantage to 39-30 with 8:53 remaining with a three before UMES rallied to score nine of next 11 points and cut it to 39-41 game at the 5:14 mark when Bria Jackson hit a 3-pointer. Sanders recorded five points in the run, including a trey of prior to an Allison Braun jump shot that preceded Jackson's long ball.
A Jen Lenox free throw and Jamie Ruttle jumper pushed the lead back to five at 44-39 with 4:14 left before another Jackson bucket a minute later pulled UMES with a 44-41 score. That was as close as the Lady Hawks got the rest of the night, though, as five unanswered by Morabito on a three and fastbreak layup sealed the victory, lengthening the Canisius lead to 49-41 with 2:44 remaining.
Ruttle also had double digits with 12 points and a team-high-tying six rebounds. Jackson finished with 12 points, two assists and two steals for UMES.
UMES erased an early 11-5 Canisius lead with an 8-0 run to take a 17-15 edge with 2:25 left in the opening half when Sanders converted a layup off a Chena Parker feed. After a Drysdale basket tied the game at 17-17, Sha-Kiyla Finney drained a trifecta to put UMES ahead 20-17 with 1:44 before the break. Canisius closed the gap with the help of a Braun jumper in transition to send the teams into the locker room all square.
Finney and LaKendra Wilkerson each had four points and four boards off the bench, while Parker pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Aggies Lose In Cavs Classic
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - North Carolina A&T lost its opening game of the Cavaliers Classic 88-59 Tuesday night at John Paul Jones Arena to the University of Virginia, the host school.
Senior Jaleesa Sams led the Aggies with 13 points. Reisha Bullock added 11 points for the Aggies, who dropped to 3-6. Freshman Jazmin Pitts led the Cavaliers with 17 points. Junior Chelsea Shine had 14.

Long Leads Savannah State Over IUPUI
SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State scored the first 12 points of the game and cruised to a 69-52 victory over Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) at Tiger Arena.
SSU held the Jaguars scoreless until the 16:22 mark when Janna Eichelberger made a layup.
IUPUI scored five straight points to cut their deficit to 12-5 but the Lady Tigers answered with a 8-1 spurt to increase their advantage to 20-6 with 9:34 on the clock.
The Jaguars trailed 24-14 with six minutes remaining but SSU finished the half with a 13-4 run and went into intermission with a 37-18 cushion.
Savannah State shot 58.3 percent from the field in the opening period
IUPUI started the second twenty minutes with a 7-0 run to pull within 37-25 but then found themselves down by 20 with 8:56 remaining as the Lady Tigers strung together a 15-7 run.
A 3-pointer by Darice Fountiane with 5:50 on the clock gave SSU its biggest lead of the contest at 59-36.
The Jaguars were able to get within 15 on three occasions within the last four minutes but could not get any closer.
Courtney Long led SSU (6-7) with a game-high 18 points. She also had seven assists, six rebounds and five steals. Fountaine added 11 points and five assists while Brittany Cade made 5 of 6 shots from the floor and chipped in 10 points.
Shea Collins and Jasmine Horne each had 11 points for IUPUI (3-8).
Both teams had 24 turnovers and SSU edged the Jaguars on the boards 34 to 33.
Savannah State finished the game shooting 53.1 percent from the floor.
