Wisconsin Tops Coppin State, 80-56

MADISON, Wis. -- Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor each scored 19 points and combined to make nine of Wisconsin's school-record 17 three-point baskets as the Badgers defeated Coppin State 80-56 on Thursday at the Kohl Center.

Leuer made 5-of-10 three-point attempts and Taylor connected on 4-of-8 attempts as the Badgers made 17-of-38 three-point attempts for the game. It also marked the most three-point field goals Coppin State has ever given up surpassing the previous most of 16 shared by three teams.

Tony Gallo scored 17 points for Coppin State, while Michael Harper added 12 points.

Wisconsin (10-2) shot 48.2 percent from the floor and committed only five turnovers in extending its winning streak to six straight.

Coppin State (4-5) dropped its second straight game despite shooting 44.9 percent from the floor and making 6-of-12 three-point attempts.

South Carolina State Falls To Longwood 90-73

LAS VEGAS - Antwan Carter poured in 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to power Longwood to a 90-73 victory over South Carolina State Thursday in the Las Vegas Classic at the Orleans Arena.

The loss was the fourth in a row for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 4-8 on the season and enter the Christmas break still seeking their first win against a Division I opponent.

Guard Darnell Porter had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead SC State in the loss. The Long Beach, California senior, who also had seven rebounds, was named to the All-Tournament team.

Omar Sanders added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Bulldogs. Also in double figures for Coach Tim Carter's team were Joe Ikhinmwin and Khalif Toombs with 13 points each.

The Bulldogs improved their performance on the boards, grabbing 40 rebounds to 29 for the Lancers after being rebounded 42-29 by The Citadel earlier, however, SC State could not match the hot shooting of Longwood.

The Lancers connected on 56 percent of their shots from the field, nailing 33-59 attempts, including 10-19 from three-point range. Longwood shot a blistering 62 percent in the second half when it pulled away from the Bulldogs.

Arizona State Survives Aggies Scare 

GREENSBORO - For 32 minutes, the North Carolina A&T had an upset victory in sight.

But Arizona State was able to hold the Aggies offense in check to earn a 56-50 win Thursday afternoon at Ned Wulk Court. Junior Nic Simpson led the Aggies with 17 points and five assists. Sophomore Adrian Powell added 10 points and senior Thomas Coleman finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Aggies led 38-26 three minutes into the second half. But Coleman, the Aggies leading scorer and rebounder, picked up three fouls within the first five minutes of the second half. Coleman's fourth foul came at the 14:55 mark of the second half.

The Sun Devils eventually cut into the Aggies lead. Rihards Kuksiks 4-point play sliced the lead to 47-44 with 8:36 to play. Powell pushed the Aggies lead back to six on a 3-pointer.

But Powell's basket would be the final points of the afternoon for N.C. A&T. The Aggies went the final eight minutes without scoring. Kuksiks' 3-pointer gave the Sun Devils a 53-50 lead with 2:55 remaining. The Aggies had two opportunities to answer, but missed two 3-pointers. Arizona State didn't seal the game until Trent Lockett hit a free throw with 26 seconds remaining.

Kuksiks led the Sun Devils with 15 points. Lockett added 12 points and Kyle Cain recorded 14 rebounds.

Evansville Rallies in 2nd Half, Tops NSU 87-69

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Colt Ryan scored a game-high 28 points, 19 from the free-throw line, and host Evansville rallied from a seven-point second-half deficit to send Norfolk State to its eighth straight loss, 87-69, on Thursday night at Roberts Stadium.

Rob Hampton scored 19 points and Chris McEachin had 17 for the Spartans (1-9), who shot a season-high 54.5 percent from the floor. But the Spartans could not overcome a season-high 27 turnovers and 36 personal fouls, which led to the host Purple Aces (6-4) shooting an astounding 54 free throws.

NSU had four starters foul out, including the team's leading scorers, Hampton and Kyle O'Quinn. O'Quinn was hampered by foul trouble in both halves, eventually exiting after posting season lows of four points, zero rebounds and 17 minutes played.

Hopf added 19 points for Evansville, which shot 71 percent (12-of-17) from the floor in the second half. Hopf hit 6-of-7 from the floor and 7-of-7 from the foul line.
