Bennett Powers Lady Rattlers To Win Over Savannah State
SAVANNNAH, Ga. (Dec. 22) - Antonia Bennett scored a game high 18 points as Florida A&M snapped their three-game losing streak in a 52-48 win over Savannah State, Wednesday evening at Tiger Arena.
Tameka McKelton was the only other Lady Rattler to score in double-figures with 13 points. Qiana Donald led the Lady Rattlers on the board with nine points, while Myeshia Simms dished out a game high seven assists.
Ezinne Kalu led the Lady Tigers in scoring as she scored a team high 12 points. Shawanda Hanton dropped in 11 points for the SSU, while both Darice Fountaine and Brittany Caded finished with 10 points each. Rikiah Gatlin led the Lady Tigers on the boards with six, while Hanton dished out a team high five assists.
FAMU finished the first half shooting 27.3 percent (9-of-33), while SSU shot 44.4 percent (12-of-27).

19th -RANKED GEORGETOWN DEFEATS COPPIN STATE 73-52
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sugar Rodgers scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds leading 19th-ranked Georgetown to a 73-52 victory over Coppin State on Wednesday at the McDonough Arena.
Rodgers, who was 8-of-16 from the floor, added seven assists and four steals to lead the Hoyas. Tommacina McBride added 11 points and four rebounds for Georgetown.
Coppin State (2-7) was led by freshman Larissa Carter who scored 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor. She also added nine rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Sophomore Leola Spotwood scored 10 points and collected five rebounds, while Shawntae Payne contributed seven points for the Eagles.
Georgetown (10-3) shot 46.8 percent from the floor, including 53.1 percent in the first half, while limiting Coppin State to just 35.2 percent shooting.
The Hoyas outscored the Eagles 44-26 in the paint and also received 18 points from their fastbreak.

Charlotte Too Much For UMES; Top Lady Hawks, 74-36
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Shannon McCallum and Paige McCallum led three Charlotte players in double figures with 12 apiece as the 49ers defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 74-36, at Halton Arena Wednesday.
The 49ers improved to 10-2 with their seventh straight win by shooting 51.9 percent for the game, including 56 percent in the second half. UMES (2-6) shot 25.5 percent on the day, dropping its third straight.
UMES was led by Casey Morton with eight points, Latoya Buckner with seven and Chelsea Sanders with five. Chena Parker grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
Eleven of 12 Charlotte players scored as Gabby Tyler (nine points) and Epiphany Woodson and Jennifer Hailey (seven) added to the 49ers' attack.

Doyle Records Fifth Double-Double of the Season; HU Edged 60-57 by NJIT
Newark, N.J. - Saadia Doyle recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 26 points and 13 rebounds in Howard's 60-57 loss to the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Wed. Dec. 22. Cheyenne Curley-Payne was the only other HU player in double figures with 12 points on the afternoon.
Doyle paced Howard (3-9) with 16 points at the half as the Lady Bison took a 26-24 advantage heading into the locker room.
NJIT was paced by Jessica Gerald's 20 points off of 12-for-14 shooting from the charity stripe. Kimberly Dweck finished with 13 points in 39 minutes of action. Maria Sanchez chipped in with nine points and pulled down a team-high 13 off the glass.
The Lady Bison are now 1-3 against teams below .500 and 0-5 against teams that score 60 or more points.
For the game, HU was held to just under 30 percent shooting (20-for-67) while NJIT finished with a 32.6 percent (15-for-46) from the floor.

Bristow Leads Lady Hornets Past Terriers
Brooklyn Hts., N.Y. (Dec. 22, 2010) --- Freshman Tasia Bristow scored a career-high 25 points to lead Delaware State to a 62-42 women's basketball win over St. Francis this evening.
The Lady Hornets snapped a five -game losing streak to improve to 2-7 this season, while the Terriers lost their second straight to fall to 1-8.
Bristow was 10 for 13 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point territory. She scored 19 points in the second half. Her point total was the most by a Delaware State player since Raquel Collier scored 26 vs. Florida A&M in 2006.
Kianna D'Oliveira added 11 points and eight rebounds for DSU. D'Oliveira scored nine first half points to lead the Lady Hornets to a 27-16 lead the break.
Deanna Harmon contributed eight points, five assists and six steals to the win.
Delaware State led by 25 points on three occasions in the second half.
The Lady Hornets held St. Francis to 16 of 45 shooting from the field (35.6%) and forced the Terriers to commit 31 turnovers, including 17 on DSU steals.
St. Francis' point total was a season-low for a Delaware State opponent this season.
