Lady Tigers Roll Past South Carolina State
SAVANNAH, Ga.-Savannah State remained undefeated at Tiger Arena with a 53-32 victory over South Carolina State before a crowd of 180 fans.
With the scored tied at six, SSU scored 12 unanswered points to take a 18-6 lead with 9:54 on the clock.
A free throw by SCSU's Paris Alston and a layup by Cherisha Floyd made the score 18-9 but the Lady Tigers answered with a 7-2 spurt to grab their biggest lead of the half, 25-11 with 2:41 on the clock.
Savannah State, who shot 55.6 percent from the field in the first half, led 25-13 at intermission.
The Lady Tigers pushed their advantage to 17 points early in the second half and used a 6-0 run to pull ahead 38-17 with 14:42 remaining.
Leading by 21 at the 6:42 mark, SSU got bench points from Artisma Samuel and Brittany Cade to build a 48-24 cushion with just over four minutes left.
The Bulldogs had six unanswered points to get within 18 with under a minute left but a 3-pointer by Jasmine Kirkland with 32 seconds remaining pushed SSU's margin back to 21 points.
Courtney Long led SSU (5-6) with 13 points while Darice Fountaine added 10 rebounds.
Alston had 8 points and 8 rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-5).
Savannah State ended the game shooting 50 percent from the floor and making 6 of 10 3-point attempts. SSU out-rebounded the Bulldogs 48 to 37.

UMES FALLS AT WAKE FOREST, 60-51
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior guard Amber Cook scored a game-high 14 points on 5-for-5 shooting for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's basketball team but Wake Forest snapped a four-game losing streak with a 60-51 win at the Joel Coliseum Monday.
Wake Forest (6-5) shot 40.4 percent for the game, including 43.3 percent in the first half for the win. UMES (2-5) outscored the Demon Deacons, 29-25, in the second half, rebounding from a cold-shooting opening period to keep the game close.
Senior guard Casey Morton added 13 points and two steals off the bench while Wake Forest placed just Sandra Garcia in double figures with 10 points.
The Demon Deacons turned 29 UMES turnovers into 23 points and grabbed 14 offensive boards for 11 second-chance points.
UMES went 20-for-27 from the line, shooting a season-high 74.1 percent. Wake shot just 58.8 percent from the stripe (10-for-17).

North Carolina State Nip Lady Rattlers, 86-60
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Dec. 20) -North Carolina State extended the Florida A&M University Women's Basketball team losing streak to three-games as the Wolfpack defeated the Lady Rattlers, 86-60, Monday evening at the Walter Pyramid in their final game of the Beach Classic.
FAMU (3-5) had a pair of Lady Rattlers to score in double-figures as Tameka McKelton scored a team high 17 points, while Nicole Collins finished with 11 points. Bennett led FAMU on the boards as she pulled down a team high six rebounds.
NCSU (6-6) had a quintet of players to score in double-figures as Bonae Holston scored a game high 15 points. Myeshia Goodwin-Coleman finished with 14 points, followed by Breezy Williams with 12 Kody Burke finished with a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds and Marissa Kastanek also finished with 11 points.
