Lady Pirates Survive IPFW In Double Overtime

HAMPTON, Va. - Senior forward Quanneisha Perry sank a put-back at the buzzer to help the Hampton defeat IPFW 78-77 in double overtime Sunday afternoon at the HU Convocation Center.

After Stephanie Rosado gave the Mastodons a 77-76 lead with a layup with 11 seconds left, junior forward Melanie Warner drove the lane and missed her layup, but Perry was there for the put-back as the buzzer sounded for Hampton's fifth straight win.

Kayla Drake drained a 3-pointer from the corner with 1:07 left in the first overtime to give IPFW a 66-65 lead. Jordan Zuppe, on the same day she recorded her 1,000th career point, hit a pair of free throws with 11 seconds remaining.

Junior guard Choicetta McMillian hit two of three free throws with one second left in the first overtime to tie the score at 68-68.

With the score tied at 57-57, Rosado missed a 17-foot jumper at the buzzer that would've given the Mastadons the win.

The Lady Pirates (6-4) were actually down 50-38 with 12:20 left in the second half after a Rosado layup, but Hampton responded with a 19-4 run, culminating in a McMillian 3-pointer with 1:57 left in regulation to give Hampton a 57-54 lead.

Zuppe tied the game with a trey of her own with 45 seconds to go in regulation.

Junior guard Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) led the Lady Pirates with a season-high 30 points on 12-for-21 shooting, while Perry went 10-for-12 from the floor to score 20 points. Warner added 13 points in the win.

Rosado led four Mastadons (6-4) in double figures with 22 points, while Zuppe added 17 points and Drake had 16. Anne Boese scored 14 points.

The Lady Pirates shot 47.8 percent (33-for-69) from the floor, while also making six of eight free throws. Hampton out-rebounded IPFW 38-37, with Warner pulling down a team-high 10.

After Perry hit a jumper with 9:51 to go in the first half to give Hampton a 25-16 lead, the Mastodons closed out the half on a 21-5 run, taking the lead back with 4:56 left on a 3-pointer from Kayla Drake to put IPFW up 30-27.

IPFW took a 37-30 lead into the half thanks to 45.2 percent (14-for-31) shooting and taking advantage of 11 first-half turnovers by the Lady Pirates. Hampton shot 48.1 percent (13-for-27) in the first half, and the Lady Pirates actually out-rebounded IPFW 17-15.

Lady Aggies Fall To Memphis   

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Senior Reisha Bullock saw her first action of the season on Sunday and responded by scoring 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Memphis was still able to defeat the North Carolina A&T women's basketball team 76-51 at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

Bullock missed all of last season for administrative reasons. She played as a junior college transfer during the 2008-09 season, where she helped the Aggies win the MEAC Tournament. She played in 31 games two seasons ago, and averaged 4.1 points and 1.8 rebounds.

Sophomore Jaquayla Berry led the Aggies with 14 points and eight rebounds on Sunday. Freshman Sabre Proctor added 10.

Long Beach State Downs Lady Rattlers 72-62

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Dec 19) - Tameka McKelton and Antonia Bennett scored in double-figures for the Florida A&M as the Lady Rattlers fell to Long  Beach State 72-62 , Sunday evening at the Walter Pyramid Center in their first game of the Beach Classic.

McKelton and Bennett finished with 19 points each for the Lady Rattlers, while Bennett pulled down a team high 15 rebounds.

Brandi Henton had the hot hand for the 49ers as she led all scorers with a game high 30 points.  Courtney Jacob was the only other 49er to score in double-figures as she finished with a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

FAMU (3-4) grabbed an early 10-4 lead as McKelton connected on a three pointer with 16:31 to go in the first. 

LBSU (2-10) would tie the game at 15-15 on a Jacob jumper at the 9:26 mark of the half.  

Then the 49ers would tie the game again at 21-21 on a Clark field goal with 3:22 to go in the half.

LBSU would then outscore FAMU 6-4 as they took a 27-25 lead in to the break. 

 The Rattlers finished the first half shooting 29.0 percent (9-of-31) from the field, while the 49ers shot 27.3 percent (9-of-23).

LBSU opened up the second half with an 11-3 run as they took a 38-28 lead, capped off by   a Tipesa Moorer jumper with 16:58 to go in the game.

FAMU closed the gap as they cut LBSU's lead to 44-42 on a McKelton three pointer with 12:35 to go in the game, capping a 14-6 run by the Lady Rattlers.

A Bennett field goal with 4:50 to go in the game, gave the Lady Rattlers a 60-58 lead.

Then the 49ers would tie the game at 60-60 on a Henton jumper with 4:26 to go in the game.

Myeshia Simms would score the Lady Rattlers final basket of the game with 1:08 to go in the game as the 49ers ended the game with 10-2 run for the 72-62 final.

Lady Wildcats Give Themselves an Early Present in UNF Win

JACKSONVILE, Fla. - The Lady Wildcats stepped up in the final game of the Osprey Holiday Classic, defeating tournament host North Florida, 60-57. After coming back to tie it at halftime, the Lady Wildcats build a significant lead on the heels of five three-pointers by freshman Jasmine Elum, who was named to the All-Tournament team. B-CU fought off the UNF rally in the closing moments to collect their second road victory and move to 4-5 on the season.

Jasmine Elum led all scorers in the game, collecting 23 points, including five three-pointers.and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. At the conclusion of the win, Elum was named to the All-Tournament team, after scoring 39 points, with eight three-pointers, across the two tournament games.

DJ Fowler led B-CU in the first half, and totaled 10 points in the game, and 3-of-4 from the line. Jasmine Daniels also scored 11 points for the Lady Wildcats. Sarah Bolden topped the team in rebounds with 7, while Cleniece Roberts was just a step behind at 6 rebounds.

Lady Hornets Fall To Nationally-Ranked Terps

Dover, Del. (Dec. 19, 2010) --- Delaware State hung tough with nationally-ranked Maryland for the first 20 minutes, but faltered in the second half of a 79-49 loss to the Terps in Memorial Hall this afternoon.

Maryland won its ninth straight game to improve to 10-1, while the Lady Hornets have lost six in a row to fall to 1-7.

Alyssa Thomas led four Maryland players in double figures with 17 points. Thomas was 7-for-11 from the field in the contest. Lynetta Kizer had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Tianna Hawkins (15) and Alicia DeVaughn (13) also reached double figures in scoring for the Terps.

Deanna Harmon led Delaware State with 11 points, while fellow freshman Kianna Conner added 10 for the Lady Hornets.

Delaware State trailed 18-10 before rallying to take the lead in the first half. Crystal Pitt capped off a 12-3 run with a three-pointer to give DSU its first lead, 22-21, with 6:09 left in the half. Conner scored five points during the Delaware State spurt.

The Lady Hornets led 25-24 after a lay up by Harmon with 2:36 to go before halftime. Maryland scored the last 10 points of the half to hold a 34-25 at the break. Delaware State missed all three shots and committed two turnovers during its last five possessions of the half.

Maryland scored the first eight points of the second half, and opened up a 42-25 lead on a jumper by Thomas with 17:55 left to play.

After a Delaware State basket, the Terps scored ran off the next 12 points to take a 54-27 lead.

Maryland held its biggest lead, 78-43, on a lay up by Natasha Cloud with 1:15 left to play.

The Terrapins were 28-for-55 from the field (50.9%), including 2-of-5 from three-point territory. Delaware State hit 16 of its 50 shots (32.0%), including 5-of-13 from beyond the arc.
