South Carolina State Defeats Coker 63-34

ORANGEBURG, SC - Sophomore Paris Alston had 10 points and eight rebounds, both game highs, to lead South Carolina State to a 63-34 victory over visiting Coker College Monday night at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Trinese Fox and reserve Brijan Turner added nine points each and Tracey Flowers chipped in eight for the he Lady Bulldogs, who won their second in a row to level their record at 3-3.

Jasmine Alston and reserve Ashley Thompson had eight points each to lead Coker, which lost its eighth game in as many outings this season and its 12th consecutive contest dating back to last season.

Coker, which lacked the size to keep up with the Lady Bulldogs, was limited to just 29.3 percent shooting from the field, connecting on just 12 of 41 attempts. SC State was only slightly better, hitting 22 of 64 attempts for a 34.4 percent accuracy from the field. The host Lady Bulldogs enjoyed a 48-32 advantage on the boards and had just nine turnovers to 21 for the visitors.

Lady Wildcats Grab Lead in Closing Seconds to Earn Win at Louisiana-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Lady Wildcats collected their first road win of the season, Monday night, as they defeated the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette, 63-61. After ULL tied it up with five seconds remaining, the Lady Wildcats converted a tip pass to Jasmine Elum into a score with just a second on the clock.

Two Lady Wildcats made their 2010-11 debuts in tonight's game, both playing significant minutes and huge roles in the game. Both Jasmine Elum and Cleniece Roberts started their first game of the season, and played over 30 minutes. Both finished with nine points apiece, while Roberts led the team in rebounds with eight. As a team, B-CU collectively hit the boards hard, with six players grabbing five or more rebounds.

Demetria Frank led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-3 from the perimeter, and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Already leading the nation in steals per game, Frank kept pace, snagging five steals. Pacing B-CU in the first half with 11 points at halftime, Jasmine Daniels finished with 18 points and three assists.
