Blackbirds Fly Past Lady HornetsDover, Del. -Kiara Evans had a game-high 22 points, while Ashley Palmer tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Long Island to a 67-57 victory over Delaware State in Memorial Hall this afternoon.
The loss snapped a three-game losing streak for the Blackbirds, who improved to 5-4 this season. The Lady Hornets lost their fourth straight to fall to 1-6.
Evans was 8-for-9 from the field. She also collected seven rebounds and led all players with five assists.
Freshman guard Tasia Bristow came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points for Delaware State. Bristow was 7-for-14 from the field, including two three-point field goals. Deanna Harmon added 10 points, while Brittany Washington had a team-high six rebounds for the Lady Hornets.
Long Island hit 13 of its 22 first half shots (59.1%), including a 40-foot jumper by Evans at the buzzer, to lead 30-21 at the break.

Lady Aggies Defeat Marshall
HUNTINGTON, Wva. - North Carolina A&T used its strongest defensive performance of the season to defeat Marshall 57-53 Saturday night in women's basketball action at the Cam Henderson Center. Freshman Sabre Proctor led the Aggies with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting. The Aggies shot just 31. 8 percent for the game but forced the Thundering Herd into 34 turnovers.
N.C. A&T trailed 47-40 with nine minutes remaining. Jaquayla Berry capped a 10-2 run with a layup that gave the Aggies a 50-49 with four minutes to play. Layups by Nikia Gorham and Proctor put the Aggies ahead by three.
Marshall's Veronica Rutz hit two free throws to pull the Herd to within one at 54-53 with two minutes left. The Herd had a chance to take the lead, but missed two free throws. Adrian Randall grabbed the offensive rebound but was called for traveling, giving the Aggies the ball back with four seconds remaining.
The Aggies clinched the game with free throws to improve to 3-4 on the season.
