UMES Sweeps Coppin State
Freshman Maline Vaitai recorded a match-high 13 kills and redshirt senior Samantha Chukwura chipped in with 10 as Maryland Eastern Shore dispatched Coppin State, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-15) at the Physical Education Complex Friday.
UMES registered its third best hitting percentage of the season at .360 while needing just one hour, 11 minutes to defeat the Eagles. With the win, the Hawks have all but assured themselves of their fourth consecutive MEAC Northern Division title, improving to 19-10 and 8-1 in the league.
Chukwura hit.692 for the match and Vaitai .478 as UMES had little trouble with the host Eagles.
Junior Zoe Bowens had nine kills seven digs and four service aces and freshman Kaveinga Lea'Aetoa pitched in with nine kills, three digs and two block assists.
Sophomore Stephanie Sierra tallied 34 of the team's 41 assists and junior Rebecca Prado had a match-best 11 digs.
Alexandria Malesick and Massey each had four kills for Coppin State. Haley Beechler also had a team-high 15 assists and five digs.

Lady Hornets Breeze Past Lady Bears
Dover, Del. -Erica Tajchman led all players with 13 kills and 12 digs to propel Delaware State to a 3-0 win over Morgan State in MEAC volleyball on Friday evening. The scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22.
The Hornets won for the fifth time in their last six matches to improve to 13-11 overall and 6-2 in the MEAC. The Bears fell to 5-19 and 3-6.
Delaware State won the season series against the Bears 2-0.
Elisa Hermann had 10 kills, while Martina Ferrari topped all players with 36 assists for the Hornets.
Erin Cox led Morgan State with 11 kills.

LadyCats Dropped by South Carolina State
ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The LadyCats of Bethune-Cookman volleyball fell to South Carolina State, Friday, on the road against the Lady Bulldogs. SCSU swept B-CU in sets of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-23.
Jessica Wilson continued her steak of leading the team in kills, topping the LadyCats offensively with eight digs, collecting six kills, while Kat Agson tallied up five assisted blocks and five kills. Alexis Bliese recorded 15 assists, while Jacqueline Woodyear topped a spread defensive effort with seven digs.
The LadyCats had challenges putting down points offensively against the Lady Bulldogs, collecting just 26 team kills on .072 hitting.

Lady Pirates Celebrate Senior Night By Beating Howard
HAMPTON, Va. -Hampton gave its three seniors a great send-off Friday night at Holland Hall, upending Howard 3-1 (25-18, 25-27, 25-20, 25-18) in MEAC action.
All three seniors - Aaryn Harrison, Lina Cordoba and Ivana Suput- were a huge part of the Lady Pirates' win. Harrison led the team with 16 kills, committing just three errors to hit .342, while Cordoba added 12 kills and hit a team-best .500 with just two errors in 20 attacks.
Suput had a match-high 22 digs on defense. Harrison also led the Lady Pirates with three service aces.
The Lady Pirates (7-22, 3-6 MEAC) hit .223 for the match, with 51 kills and just 22 errors in 130 attacks. Hampton hit a team-best .345 (14 kills, four errors in 29 attacks) in the fourth set, while also hitting .256 (17 kills, seven errors in 39 attacks) in the second set.
Howard (7-18, 4-4 MEAC) hit .144 as a team, with 41 kills and 22 errors in 132 attacks. The Lady Bison committed seven errors in the third set and eight in the fourth.
Tosin Elebute led Howard with 13 kills.

NCCU Overcomes Slow Start To Sweep Rival Aggies In Three
DURHAM, N.C. - It was a long road to the three-set victory for the North Carolina Central University women's volleyball team on Friday (Nov. 5) inside the McDougald -McLendon Gymnasium, as the Eagles hosted the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University. Although NCCU trailed by at least four points in each of the first two set, the Eagles swept the match 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-19).
Senior Belinda Behncke-Biney sparked NCCU with a match-high 10 kills to go along with a pair of service aces and three digs. Juniors Sashalee Wallen and Maritsann Sinclair contributed nine and seven kills, respectively, for the Eagles. NCCU rookie Kalin Russell recorded six kills on just 10 attempts without a hitting error, while adding eight digs and three blocks.
Eagles' junior Raven King led the defensive effort with 13 digs on the night. Freshman setter Jzima-Malaki Kalao kept the Aggies' defense on its heels, distributing 31 assists to her offensive regime.
As a team, NCCU accumulated 44 kills, 35 assists, six service aces 41 digs and five team blocks.
While NCCU held the North Carolina A&T to a .117 hitting percentage, three Aggies pushed past the Eagles' defense, pacing the offense. Freshmen Tatiana Cooper and Mia Gray each amassed eight kills. Gray made a major contribution to the North Carolina A&T defense with 10 digs.
Aggies sophomore Andrea Evans earned seven kills during the match, and assisted the front defensive efforts with two block assists. Senior setter Amber Inman maintained the North Carolina A&T offense dispensing 25 assists.
Collectively, the Aggies earned 30 kills, forced three Eagles' service aces, 33 digs, 27 assists and three team blocks.
