Vandersloot Powers Gonzaga Past NCCU, 94-52
HONOLULU, Hawaii-Two-time defending West Coast Conference Player of the Year Courtney Vandersloot used a double-double performance with 22 points and 13 assists to power Gonzaga past North Carolina Central, 94-52, on day two of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday.
Vandersloot shot 9-of-11 from the field, including 2-for-4 from long range, made both free throw attempts and added five steals. Fellow Bulldog guard Katelan Redmon contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while Meghan Winters and Claire Raap came off the bench to score in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Gonzaga (3-3).
NCCU (1-3) was paced by sophomore Chasidy Williams with 12 points, while senior Jori Nwachukwu tallied 11 points and a team-best four rebounds.
Gonzaga, the WCC champions and Sweet 16 participants a year ago, scored the first 10 points of the contest and shot a blistering 58.3 percent in the first half to take a 51-26 lead into the locker room at intermission. The Bulldogs finished the contest shooting 47.5 percent (38-of-80), compared to 30.2 percent (13-of-43) by the Lady Eagles.
The relentless Gonzaga defensive pressure forced 26 Lady Eagle turnovers resulting in 36 points off of NCCU miscues. The Zags also had a 20-0 advantage in fast-break points and out-rebounded NCCU, 48-28.

Fowler's 15 Points Paces Lady Wildcats Over Jacksonville State, 57-46
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A tight first half looked troublesome for the shorthanded Lady Wildcats as Jacksonville State pressed them into an early seven-point deficit, but a B-CU charge to wrap the first half on top carried over to the second period. Led by freshman guard DJ Fowler's 15 points, the Lady Wildcats outscored the Gamecocks 32-23 in the second half to earn their second win of the season, 57-46.
The Lady Wildcats notched a season-low for turnovers at 17, and created 24 turnovers by Jacksonville State, with the B-CU charge led by Demetria Frank, who finished with eight steals.
Freshman DJ Fowler led the way for B-CU offensively, putting in 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while also hitting 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Fowler was just one of four Lady Wildcats who finished in double-figures. Sarah Bolden chipped in 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting with six rebounds, while freshman Amanda Hairston led B-CU on the boards, with eight rebounds and 11 points. Demetria Frank wrapped up the scoring quartet with 10 points.

Lady Hornets Fall To 1-3 After Loss To Xavier
Dover, Del. (Nov. 27, 2010) --- Amber Harris led all players with 23 points and eight rebounds in Xavier's 72-41 win over Delaware State in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday.
The Musketeers improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Lady Hornets fell to 1-3.
Harris was 10-for-14 from the field in 24 minutes of playing time. She also led all players with four blocks. Tyeasha Moss added nine points and led all players with seven assists for the Musketeers.
Kianna Conner was high scorer for Delaware State with 10 points. Tasia Bristow came off the bench to add eight points for the Lady Hornets. Kianna D'Oliveira led DSU with six rebounds.
Delaware State was 14-for-53 from the floor (26.4%), while Xavier was 27-for-51 (52.9%). The Lady Hornets were also outrebounded 40-30, and plagued by 27 turnovers.

Spartans Improve to 4-1 with 66-51 Win Over Wofford
NORFOLK, Va. -Norfolk State improved to 4-1 on the season with a 66-51 win over Wofford Saturday afternoon in the team's home opener at Joseph Echols Hall.
It was not always pretty, but NSU secured its second-best start to a season in the Division I era, thanks to balanced scoring across the board. Freshman Rae Corbo led all players with 13 points and was one of six players for the Spartans with at least seven points.
The story of the day, though, was Wofford's 36 turnovers, which NSU turned into 40 points. The Spartans held a 40-15 advantage in points off turnovers, with NSU committing 23 turnovers on the day.
The Spartans also had a 43-38 edge in rebounds, with 22 of those boards coming on the offensive glass. NSU led in second-chance points, 17-5.
Juniors Whitney Long and Sarah Daily also reached double figures in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while sophomore Batavia Owens and freshman Rachel Gordon each had seven rebounds. Freshman Recca Trice added seven points and had a game-high five assists.
NSU shot just 36.7 percent for the game, while the Terriers did not fare much better, hitting 38.3 percent. The Spartans hit 18-of-28 (64.3 percent) from the free throw line, while Wofford connected on 11-of-18 (61.1 percent). The Spartans were also 4-of-8 from the 3-point line, compared to 4-of-12 for the Terriers.
Wofford (2-4) was led by Logan Morris with 11 points, while Rachel Brittenham and Mahagony Williams posted 10 points each.
NSU avenged last year's 77-75 overtime loss at Wofford. Since 1997-98, when NSU entered D-I play, the only other time the Spartans began the year 4-1 occurred in the 2001-02 season, when NSU went on to capture the MEAC tournament championship.

Doyle Scores Game-High 21 Points in loss to LSU
STORRS, CT - Saadia Doyle scored a game-high 21 points in Howard's 69-39 loss to LSU (4-3) on Sat. Nov. 27. The Lady Bison drop to 2-5 overall and will face Lehigh for its final match of the World Vision Challenge. The game is slated for 2 p.m.
Doyle scored 14 of HU's 27 second-half points behind 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. As a team, the Lady Bison outscored the Tigers 27-25 in the second period.
Tamoria Holmes chipped in with five points off the bench. The Lady Bison were held to just 28.6 shooting from the floor (14-of-49), while LSU shot just under 50 percent (26-for-53).
For the Tigers, LaSondra Barrett finished with a team-high 17 points. Adrienne Webb tallied 16 points.

Lady Pirates Drop Defensive Struggle To Jacksonville
HAMPTON, Va. -Hampton lost a hard-fought, defensive battle on Saturday at the HU Convocation Center, as Jacksonville escaped with a 49-42 win.
Senior forward Quanneisha Perry led the Lady Pirates (1-4) with 12 points on 5-for-12 shooting, while junior forward Melanie Warner added 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Sophomore forward Delia Brunson added a career-high nine rebounds, while sophomore forward Keiara Avant tied her career high with eight rebounds to go along with six points. Junior center Sherena Abercrumbia tied her season high with six points.
Hampton shot 25.8 percent (17-for-66) from the floor, missing all eight of its 3-point attempts. The Lady Pirates did out-rebound the Dolphins 46-37, and Hampton forced Jacksonville into 28 turnovers.
Paschal led the Dolphins with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds.
