LADY PIRATES DROP HOME OPENER TO RICHMOND

HAMPTON, Va. -Hampton lost its home opener on Tuesday night, as the University of Richmond beat the Lady Pirates 71-43 at the HU Convocation Center.

Richmond held the Lady Pirates (1-3) to just four second-half field goals in taking their third straight win in the series.

Senior forward Quanneisha Perry led the Lady Pirates with 13 points, while junior guard Choicetta McMillian and Melanie Warner each scored nine. Warner also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Hampton shot 27.1 percent (16-for-59) from the floor on the night, including just 4-for-27 in the second half.

Hampton out-rebounded Richmond 42-38, including 21 offensive boards.

The Spiders shot 46.7 percent (28-for-60) from the floor, while also hitting six of their 16 3-point attempts. Brittani Shells led Richmond with 15 points, while Abby Oliver added 12. Crystal Goring added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Doyle and Curley-Payne Combine for 42 Points in loss to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Saadia Doyle and Cheyenne Curley-Payne combined to score 42 of Howard's 52 points in its loss to Jacksonville (3-1).

 With the loss, the Lady Bison drop to 2-3 on the season. They will travel to Storrs to participate in The World Vision Challenge hosted by UConn on Thurs. Nov. 26.

Doyle and Curley-Payne scored all of the HU's 30 second-half points. Howard and JU traded baskets for the first five-plus minutes of the second stint. The score was knotted 31-31 until a pair at the line by the Dolphin's Gigi Thomas ignited a 14-4 run to give HU its largest deficit of the game, 45-35, midway through the period. The Lady Bison responded by rattling off eight straight - all from Doyle - to pull to within two, 45-43, at the 8:15 mark. A Curley-Payne free-throw at 7:07 brought the margin to 47-46, but the Dolphins pushed the spread to 55-48 with 3:30 remaining in regulation. JU held on to the slim advantage for the rest of the game.

Doyle finished with a game-high 25 points and 14 boards for her third double-double of the season. Payne tallied 17 points behind 6-of-11 shooting- including a perfect 5-for-5 from the stripe - and pulled down four off the glass in 33 minutes of action.

As a team, the Lady Bison outscored the Dolphins in the paint 28-18. Howard also scored 17 points off 11 Jacksonville miscues.

HU shot 33.3 percent (20-for-60) from the floor and a steller 92.3 percent (12-for-13) from the foul line. Jacksonville came into tonight's contest averaging 41 percent from the field, but was held to just a 32.7 shooting clip (18-for-55) tonight.

For JU, Thomas recorded 17 points and eight rebounds. Taneske Richardson finished with 16 points and 13 points on the night.

Georgia State Overpowers Lady Wildcats with Depth, 70-49

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - When the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman women's basketball took command of the game just under five minutes in, it looked like a lopsided B-CU win in the making. However, the Panthers of Georgia State battled back to take a three-point lead at half. In the second half, they took advantage of B-CU's short bench, leading to the 70-49 B-CU loss.

The Lady Wildcats had offensive struggles coming out of the half, with GSU steadily building a lead. The game broke open when B-CU went over five minutes without a score and GSU put down 12 in that same period. Another four-minute drought sealed the game, as Georgia State went on to win 70-49.

Georgia State's Angelique Burtts had a star performance for the Panthers, scoring 23 points to lead the eleven players on the court for GSU, cutting dangerously close to a second triple-double on the season, with nine rebounds and eight assists.

Just seven players entered the game for B-CU, shorthanded due to injuries.

Leading the way, Jasmine Daniels put down 17 points with seven rebounds. Demetria Frank also grabbed seven boards, chipping in 15 points of her own, along with five steals.

Fountaine Scores 24 In Loss To Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Darice Foutaine scored a game-high 24 points but it would not be enough as Savannah State fell to 1-3 with a 79-41 setback from Charlotte.

Charlotte led 8-2 early in the contest. SSU cut their deficit to 8-5 after Ezinne Kalu made three free throws.

Savannah State sliced an 11 point deficit to 8 points on a 3-pointer by Fountaine but Charlotte closed the half with a 21-5 run to take a 39-15 lead into the locker room.

SSU only made 3 of 24 shots from the floor in the opening period while Charlotte made 18 of 22 free throws in the first half.

The 49ers led by 30 points early in the second half but a three-point play by Kalu pulled SSU within 49-22 with 16:48 remaining.

Charlotte answered with a 14-2 run to make the score 53-24 with 10:33 on the clock.

A 3-pointer by Fountaine cut the Savannah State deficit to 35 with 7:42 left.

Ten unanswered points during a 14-2 spurt pushed Charlotte's lead to 79-35 with 35 seconds left.

SSU finished the game with back to back 3-pointers by Fountaine.

Jeniffer Haley led Charlotte (3-1) with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Charlotte out-rebounded SSU 45 to 27.

SC State Women Lose 51-38 to Presbyterian

ORANGEBURG, SC - South Carolina State could not overcome poor shooting Tuesday night and dropped a 51-38 decision to Presbyterian in the first game of a doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Tracey Flowers had 12 points to lead SC State in the loss. Joi Walker and Brijan Turner added six points each for Coach Doug Robertson's team, which dropped to 1-2 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs, who have had trouble scoring all season, connected on just 32 percent of its shots from the field as the SC State women failed to reach the 40-point mark for the third time in as many outings.

Robertson's team scored just 37 points in its opener - a 95-37 loss at Wake Forest Nov. 18, and tallied only 37 points in a 37-33 triumph over Savannah State Sunday.

Presbyterian was led by Mariah Pietrowski with 13 points, with most of them coming inside. Dria David and Shonda Burnside added 10 points each in the win. David also had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Blue Hose, who improved to 2-2 on the season.
