NORFOLK, Va., November 2, 2010 - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced the 2010-11 basketball television schedule today with an exciting array of men's and women's competitive matchups on multiple ESPN platforms.
As part of its seven-year agreement with ESPN, the MEAC will highlight 10 men's and three women's regular season games.
The 2011 MEAC Championship Tournament will also air on the ESPN networks with the women's championship game scheduled for a taped-delayed telecast airing on March 13 at 11 a.m. on ESPNU while the men's championship game will televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 2 p.m. on March 12.
"We are excited about the 2010-11 MEAC men's and women's basketball television schedule and look forward to another competitive and exciting basketball season," said MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas. "We are pleased to showcase our talented coaches and student-athletes as they compete on a national television platform such as ESPN."
The 2010-11 television schedule tips off on Monday, January 10 featuring Bethune-Cookman at North Carolina A&T. The game will air live at 7 p.m. on ESPNU. The action continues on January 15 in Baltimore, Maryland with the two-time defending tournament and regular season champion Morgan State Bears hosting the South Carolina State Bulldogs. The game will air live beginning at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
In women's action, the defending MEAC women's champion Hampton Lady Pirates will tip off against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's Lady Hawks on January 31. The women will tip-off at 4:30 on ESPNU followed by the men's game slated to begin at 7 p.m.
For the third straight year MEAC men's basketball teams will participate in the annual BracketBusters event, a three-day men's college basketball extravaganza pitting potential NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other.
The Morgan State Bears, who have competed in all-three years as the MEAC' representative, will be joined by Delaware State, making its debut this year.
For the sixth straight year, ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, will feature five BracketBusters games while ESPN or ESPN2 will televise up to six contests. The 11 BracketBusters matchups will be announced Jan. 31.
The 114-team field will feature teams from 15 conferences as well as one independent: 12 from the Mid-American Conference and Colonial Athletic; 10 from the Ohio Valley Conference, Missouri Valley and Metro Atlantic Athletic; nine from Big Sky, Big South, Big West and Western Athletic; eight from the Horizon League; five from America East and Southern; two from the MEAC and West Coast; and one from the Summit League, as well as independent Seattle.
