The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks and Florida A&M University Lady Rattlers earned the top seeds in the northern and southern divisions of the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship tournament.
The tournament begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 19 at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University in Baltimore, Md.
The Lady Hawks finished the season with an 8-2 mark in conference play and a share of the northern divisional title along with Delaware State. The DSU Lady Hornets also finished the season with an 8-2 mark and earned the second seed in the tournament based on tie-breaker procedures.
Florida A&M captured its fourth consecutive southern divisional crown with a 7-1 mark in conference play. The defending MEAC champion Lady Rattlers have won ten of the last 11 MEAC crowns.
Howard secured the No. 3 seed with a 5-5 conference record followed by Morgan State (4-6) who earned the fourth and final spot in the northern division.
South Carolina State (6-2) captured the second seed in the southern division. Norfolk State (5-3) earned the third seed and Bethune-Cookman (2-6) rounded out the fourth and final seed.
Only the top four teams in each division are eligible to compete for the conference title. Seedings are determined by overall conference records. Hampton (3-7), Coppin State (2-8) and North Carolina A&T (0-8) have been eliminated from tournament play based on their MEAC record.
The 2010 MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament begins on Friday, November 19 through Sunday, November 21 at Coppin State University. The volleyball championship will conclude with the championship finale at noon on Sunday, November 21.
Admission for the championship tournament is $5 for adults and $3 for students, children under the age of 11, and senior citizens. Tickets are available at Coppin State's Physical Education Complex the day of the event.
